Chapter 216
Chapter 216:
“Never,” I cut in firmly. “I couldn’t even think about being with someone else, let alone someone like Eliza. I was still hurting. The idea of being with anyone who wasn’t Raina… it wasn’t something I could do.”
Faith nodded, looking down at her lap. “I just—Dom, I don’t know what to believe anymore. Eliza is always in my face, tossing these accusations around.”
I slumped forward, elbows on my knees. “Faith, listen. Dominic would never do that to you. He keeps Eliza close because he has to, not because he wants to. When we get the evidence, she’s gone. For good.”
Her shoulders slumped, and she shuddered out a breath. “It’s hard, Alex. Knowing she’s just… there. It feels like she’s winning.”
“Don’t,” I said firmly. “I swear to you, Faith, she is not. You will get through this. Dominic loves you, and he’s doing everything in his power to protect you and Caleb.”
Her lips curled into a faint smile. “Thanks,” she whispered. “And… I’m glad you’ve changed. Raina’s lucky to have you.”
Her words were like something sharp striking deep within me. I forced a smile. “For her, I can never be that man. For her, I need to be the man she deserves.”
Faith walked out of the room and gave me a slight nod. I stared at the empty space she left behind.
I couldn’t sleep. So, I decided to freshen up and clear my head. The cold water splashing against my face did nothing to soothe the tension knotting in my chest. Finally, unable to take the silence anymore, I walked downstairs to find Dominic standing in the kitchen with a glass of milk in his hand.
“Milk, Dominic? Really?” I asked, laughing as I leaned against the doorframe. “What’s this all about?”
Dominic looked over the rim of his glass at me. “Same reason you’re awake,” he answered.
“Yeah, but I’m not the one chugging milk in the middle of the night,” I said, smirking.

He set the glass on the table and sighed heavily. “Can’t bring myself to drink anything stronger knowing what I’m dealing with. Milk will have to do.”
I laughed and pulled my head back. “Fair enough. Have you managed to get the cup Eliza drugged for testing?”
Dominic nodded grimly. “Not just the cup. I found out about the waiters who worked that night as well.”noveldrama
I raised an eyebrow. “And?”
“One of them’s missing,” he said, gritting his jaw. “He didn’t clock out that night and hasn’t been seen since.”
“Eliza must have paid him off,” I said, folding my arms.
“Probably,” Dominic admitted, his voice laced with frustration. “But my men are on it. If anyone knows what happened that night, it’s him.”
We stood in silence for a moment, the weight of everything pressing down on us.
“Eliza’s good at covering her tracks,” I said finally.
“Too good,” Dominic muttered. “But not good enough. I’ll find out what she’s hiding, even if it’s the last thing I do.”
I slapped a hand against his shoulder. “We’re gonna get her, Dominic. One way or another.”
For the first time that night, a faint, determined smile curled Dominic’s lips. “Damn right we are.”
The next morning, Dominic and I left together to head back to the bar. The ride was silent, the kind of silence that felt heavy with everything left unsaid. I caught glimpses of him a few times, his jaw clenched, his fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly. It was clear he hadn’t slept much either.
When we arrived, Dominic’s old friend, Anthony, was already waiting for us at the entrance. Anthony was a tall, wiry man with graying hair and a nervous energy about him. He extended a hand toward Dominic, who accepted it with a curt nod.
