A Divorce He Regrets

Chapter 33

Chapter 33:

“Good to see you awake, Ms. Raina,” he said warmly. “You took quite a hit. You have a mild concussion, a few fractured ribs, and some bruising, but thankfully, you’re going to be all right.”

I absorbed his words, but they felt distant, overshadowed by the urgency building inside me. I had no time to waste—I needed to get to my son. Pushing myself up, ignoring the flare of pain that shot through me, I tried to get off the bed.

The doctor held up a hand, his expression stern. “Not so fast. You need to rest.”noveldrama

“Rest?” I huffed, shaking my head. “I don’t have that luxury. I need to save my son.”

Dominic gave me a pained look before exchanging a glance with the doctor. His shoulders sagged slightly as he moved closer to me. “Raina,” he started, hesitating, “you don’t need to worry about that… because Liam isn’t in danger like we were led to believe. They found something else.”

His words took a moment to register, but when they did, it felt like the ground had shifted beneath me. “What do you mean?” I asked, my voice barely more than a whisper.

Dominic’s jaw tightened, and he exhaled heavily. “Liam was poisoned. They’re still trying to figure out exactly what he was given and for how long, but… it seems this has been going on for some time.”

A cold dread washed over me, and my head spun. “Poisoned?” The word felt foreign, unfathomable. I tried to wrap my mind around it, but nothing made sense. How could anyone have done this to him?

“Yes,” Dominic murmured. “Alexander… he couldn’t believe it either.”

I let out a bitter laugh, one that didn’t hold a shred of humor. “Of course, he couldn’t,” I said, shaking my head. “This is the same Alex who accused me of cheating, who didn’t even care to question why I would suddenly be needed to donate bone marrow when there’s no history of bone disease in my family.”

I looked up, meeting Dominic’s gaze. “Do you remember when you wanted me to come here, to check things out? But I was too stubborn to listen.”

Dominic nodded, the pain in his eyes reflecting my own. “I did ask our grandparents, just to be sure. When I found out there was no history of any bone disease, I knew something was wrong.” He reached over, his hand covering mine gently. “But that’s not important now. What matters is Liam—and making sure he’s safe.”

“Safe?” I scoffed. “Eliza tried to kill him, Dominic. I saw it with my own eyes.” I closed my eyes, the memory burning behind my eyelids. “I have proof. I recorded her. She wanted my son dead just to get back at Alex. They’re perfect for each other.”

Dominic’s expression turned dark, his eyes hardening. “Eliza. She’s… Alexander’s fiancée, right?”

I nodded, my mouth twisting bitterly. “Yes. Or she was, at least.”

He looked away for a moment, processing this. “Then we’ll make sure she’s held accountable. Don’t worry. Liam is safe for now. I had him transferred to this hospital. My friend owns it, and he’s making sure security is airtight. No one can get to him.”

“Thank you,” I whispered, feeling a surge of gratitude. Dominic had thought of everything, had done what Alex never could—protect my son. “But I need to see him. Now.”

Dominic hesitated for a second before nodding. He reached for a wheelchair, carefully helping me into it. Every movement sent a sharp ache through my body, but I gritted my teeth, refusing to let the pain slow me down. We made our way to Liam’s room, and as we entered, I saw Ava sitting by her brother’s side, her small hand resting gently on his.
