Chapter 1847
As soon as they stepped out of the clinic, the girl exhaled deeply, as though shedding a heavy burden. Yet her expression remained unsettled, shifting between hesitation and determination.
She turned to Karina, forcing a faint smile that looked strained and unnatural. "Karina, can you wait here for a moment? I'm going to the convenience store nearby to grab something. I'll be right back." Karina, though slightly puzzled, nodded. "Alright, but don't take too long. I'll wait for you here."noveldrama
The girl nodded and jogged toward the store in the distance.
Minutes ticked by, but she didn't return. Karina stood by the roadside, craning her neck to look around, her worry growing with every passing moment.
Suddenly, a figure darted out from a nearby alley and charged straight toward her. Before Karina could react, a bucket of liquid was dumped over her, drenching her completely.
The acrid smell hit her immediately, and her mind buzzed with alarm. Her heart dropped as she realized what it was.
Gasoline.
Turning her head in shock, she froze upon seeing the girl holding the empty bucket.
The girl's face was a twisted mask of rage and despair, her wide eyes blazing with a maniacal gleam. Gone was the delicate, pitiful expression she had worn before. In its place was a hollow, hate-filled gaze, consumed by jealousy and bitterness. She gripped the empty bucket tightly, her breathing ragged, her chest heaving with each breath. Then, in a shrill, hysterical voice, she burst into a fit of laughter.
"Ha! Surprised, aren't you? Karina,
from the moment you took Wilfred away from me, you should have known this day would come! I loved him-I loved him so much I reduced myself to nothing for him. And yet, he wouldn't even spare me a second glance! Why? Why does everything change the moment you show up?"
Karina, soaked and trembling, felt both fear and heartbreak. Tears welled in her eyes, but she forced herself to remain calm. Her voice trembled slightly, but she spoke steadily, trying to reason with the girl. "Love should never be like this! You can't force feelings. What Wilfred and I have been through isn't something you know about-it's not as simple as you think.
"I never meant to take anything away from you. Every person's fate and connections are unique. You just haven't met the one who's truly meant for you."
Just then, Wilfred arrived, his face pale as he took in the scene before him. He stopped in his tracks, his entire body tense as his eyes landed on the lighter in the girl's hand.
Restraining himself, he growled through gritted teeth, "You're out of your mind! If you go through with this, you won't just destroy Karina-you'll ruin your own life too. Put down the lighter!"
But the girl was deaf to his words,
her sanity overwhelmed by rage. Her
hand shot up, holding the lighter high. The small flame danced dangerously in the night breeze,
threatening to ignite everything in an
instant.
"I don't care anymore!" she screamed. "I have nothing left to lose. If I can't have his heart, then at least I can make sure you two don't get to be happy together!"
In that heart-stopping moment,
Karina's eyes darted to the side. She
spotted a water truck parked nearby.
The driver had stepped out for a break teaving the window slightly
open and the keys still in the ignition.
An idea flashed through her mind, bold and desperate.
Keeping her composure, Karina raised her voice, addressing the girl. "Don't do this. Let's talk it through. I'll leave Wilfred if that's what it takes. Just calm down."
The girl's movements faltered, doubt flickering across her face. "Do you really mean that?" she asked, her tone suspicious and hesitant.
What do you think?
