Chapter 48 I’m Not Here to Join This Family

Chapter 48: Chapter 48 I’m Not Here to Join This Family

Mo Jiao’s violet eyes widened as he looked down at Xiao Jinsheng in shock. He found her casually drinking water and rinsing her mouth, which made his anger spark instantly. "You force a kiss on me, and still dare to act disgusted!"

"No, you misunderstood." Xiao Jinsheng wiped her mouth with a handkerchief and patted Mo Jiao on the chest. "I’ll explain later."

Saying that, she quickly strode toward Huaiqing, who was busy heating fresh flower pastries. Grabbing him by the collar, she leaned down and kissed his lips. noveldrama

Huaiqing’s eyes flickered slightly, but before he could react, Xiao Jinsheng had already started drinking water and rinsing her mouth again.

"What’s going on with her?" Su Ye asked in a daze, turning to Que Zelian for answers.

Que Zelian was about to reply when Xiao Jinsheng, fully prepared, charged toward Yu Yunxiao.

Yu Yunxiao pressed a hand against her head, stopping her advance in its tracks.

His ears were flushed red as he nervously stammered, "You-You calm down! No need for you to do anything; I’ll handle it myself."

"Huh?" Xiao Jinsheng tilted her head in confusion, only to see Yu Yunxiao leaning down toward her with his face close.

His cat ears twitched back and forth as he quickly pecked Xiao Jinsheng’s lips, then hastily retreated, mumbling, "Doing this in public—don’t you have any shame?"

"None of your business!" Xiao Jinsheng drank water and rinsed her mouth again.

Seeing her wipe her lips with a handkerchief, Yu Yunxiao was shocked. "What are you planning now?"

"Two more to go," Xiao Jinsheng said before turning and running back.

She seemed far more practiced when it came to Su Ye and Que Zelian.

Grabbing both their arms, she stood on tiptoe and kissed each man swiftly, finally leaving satisfied.

"Done." Xiao Jinsheng swaggered toward Bai Yan, looking at her with a mischievous smile. "So, what was it you wanted to talk to me about again?"

Bai Yan kept her composure, though her expression nearly faltered.

System: [Now that she’s formed Contractual Totems with all five of her Beast Husbands, do we still need that confusion skill?]

Bai Yan exploded in anger: [What confusion skill? This is bullshit—damn it!]

Bai Yan fumed: [Do I look like someone desperate? I don’t take back secondhand goods!]

The system, verbally abused to no end, couldn’t take it and began arguing back.

System: [And now I’m to blame? That mouth belongs to Xiao Jinsheng, and she’s the one who kissed them. Those kissed didn’t even push her away—it’s none of my business!]

"Didn’t you have something to tell me? Why are you just standing there like an idiot?" Xiao Jinsheng stared at Bai Yan in confusion.

Bai Yan snapped out of her argument with the system and forced a dry laugh. "I do have something to say, but what you were just busy with left me a bit flustered."

"What’s there to be flustered about? I kissed my men—didn’t kiss yours," Xiao Jinsheng scoffed.

Bai Yan’s embarrassment deepened, and she had no intention of continuing the conversation.

She murmured, "Actually, Jinsheng, I just realized my mission this time doesn’t align with yours, and my wristband’s durability isn’t enough. I’m afraid I can’t help you with your task anymore."

"How could you do this!" Xiao Jinsheng was furious. "You promised to help me with the mission, and now, without even finding a single Mutant Beast, you want to back out?"

"Jinsheng, I didn’t think things through this time. Our wristbands’ durability isn’t enough, and you always want a break after searching for just an hour. If we help complete your task, we won’t have time to finish our own missions," Bai Yan explained, looking humble and apologetic.

Hearing the commotion, Jin Ao and the others gathered around.

Kui Mao pulled Bai Yan back to her team, his tone icy. "Helping you is a favor, not an obligation. Don’t push your luck."

"She bragged big, reneged right after, and it’s your team that’s been sticking to us like glue since entering Mist West," Xiao Jinsheng sneered. "I never begged you for help in the first place. No skill but plenty of pretension—don’t you have any shame?"

"Jinsheng, it’s not that I don’t want to help you. It’s just that our wristbands’ durability isn’t enough this time. Next time, we’ll help you out. My Beast Husbands and I only mean well—how can you say such things about us?" Bai Yan sobbed.

"And now you’re crying first. Get lost—I don’t want to see you anymore!"

Xiao Jinsheng raged, "You’ve been unreliable since childhood. How many times have you lied to me? I must’ve been crazy to trust you this time."

Xiao Jinsheng wailed and turned to bury her face in the arms of someone approaching from behind.

She waved her hand wildly. "Bai Yan, I hate you. I’ll never reconcile with you. You’re a liar—boohoohoo!"

"Jinsheng..." Bai Yan, devastated, collapsed back into Jin Ao’s embrace.

Tears streaming, she said, "Jinsheng, I’ve always loved you like a sister. I don’t understand why you harbor so much prejudice against me. Just calm down for now—I’ll come find you when we return."

Xiao Jinsheng buried her face into the arms behind her, refusing to acknowledge Bai Yan.

Bai Yan looked heartbroken, turning back often as her Beast Husbands ushered her away.

Mo Jiao glanced down at the person nestled in his arms and sneered, "Cut the acting; she’s long gone."

"Is she mentally ill?" Xiao Jinsheng lifted her face, full of confusion.

"You both have a bit of a sickness," Yu Yunxiao snorted beside them:

"Always pulling each other’s hair when you meet, cursing nonstop, but today you played the role of loving sisters only to end in betrayal and heartbreak. Should I fix both your brains?"

"Just fix hers—she’s the one overflowing with drama." Xiao Jinsheng replied irritably.

If Bai Yan hadn’t pretended to be the victim, Xiao Jinsheng wouldn’t have bothered to play along.

"Brain surgery can wait." Mo Jiao grabbed Xiao Jinsheng’s neck gently, leaning in. "Isn’t it time you explained what you just did?"

"Yeah, go ahead and explain." Yu Yunxiao blocked her path.

Xiao Jinsheng darted left, but Huaiqing adjusted his glasses and smiled, guarding the left side.

She shifted right, only for Su Ye to press a firm hand on her shoulder. "Miss, your appetite’s quite big, huh?"

"Que Zelian~" Xiao Jinsheng locked eyes with Que Zelian outside the encirclement, pleading silently.

Que Zelian sent her a reassuring look. Just as she felt relieved, he said, "It’s not safe out here. If you want to settle accounts, let’s return to the shelter first."

"Que Zelian!" Xiao Jinsheng gazed at him in shock.

Que Zelian smiled softly at her. "Jinsheng, before causing trouble, you should’ve thought about the consequences."

"Let’s go." Mo Jiao grabbed her by the back of her collar, hoisting her onto his shoulder as he strode toward last night’s villa.

Grasping his purple-streaked hair, Xiao Jinsheng wriggled in protest. "I can walk on my own! Killer Brother, put me down!"

Mo Jiao seized one of her kicking ankles. "Save your energy. We’ll settle accounts when we get back."

Resistance proved futile, and Xiao Jinsheng resorted to braiding Mo Jiao’s long hair in frustration as he carried her.

At the villa, as soon as Mo Jiao set her down, Xiao Jinsheng dashed toward Que Zelian.

Clinging tightly to his waist, she cried, "Save me! Save me!"

"Go hide in the Space. I’ll handle them," Que Zelian patted her shoulder gently.

Xiao Jinsheng nodded and was about to enter the Space when there was a knock at the door.

The room fell silent instantly, and Xiao Jinsheng gritted her teeth, muttering, "It must be Bai Yan again."

Unable to care about hiding in the Space, she angrily stormed toward the door.

"Why can’t you leave us alone?! Every time it’s you—isn’t that haunting enough?!" Xiao Jinsheng shouted, only to be presented with a bouquet of vibrant roses.

Staring blankly, she raised her gaze to see a familiar black-and-red Demon Mask.

Li smiled and murmured affectionately, "My dear, long time no see."

"Dear?" Mo Jiao’s sharp gaze pierced Xiao Jinsheng’s back.

"Long time no see?" Su Ye scoffed, his golden eyes fixed on her.

Shivering, Xiao Jinsheng retreated hastily, zigzagging toward the Space, only to have her wrist caught firmly by Huaiqing. He chuckled lightly, "With guests here, it wouldn’t be fitting for the Family Head to slip away, would it?"

"Xiao Jinsheng, who is he? I’m asking you—who is he?!" Yu Yunxiao flushed red with anger, pressing her for answers.

"Jinsheng, go ahead and explain," Que Zelian said cheerfully, looking at her.

Xiao Jinsheng hung her head low, wishing she could disappear into thin air.

Finally, it was Li who broke the silence.

Carrying the bouquet in one hand, he stepped into the living room as if it were his own.

He spoke kindly, "No need to be nervous, everyone. I’m not here to join your household."

Placing the flowers on the coffee table, he turned and extended his hand to the group. "It’s a pleasure to meet you all, but the night grows late—please leave my home now."

Ready to comply, Xiao Jinsheng nodded and moved toward the door, only to be pulled back by Li. "My Lady, there’s no need for you to handle the task of sending guests away."

The five other men realized they’d never felt the urge to commit murder as strongly as they did now.
