Lost and Found: Return of My Mysterious Fiancee

Chapter 1018: Starting from the Root

Tina stopped in front of a gravestone. It was new, with Nancy's name already engraved on it.

There was no photo.

Claudia had done so much evil under Nancy's guise.

Tina didn't want Nancy to see anything that could stir up bad memories.

Jennie stepped forward, unwrapping the bundle she carried. She began taking out the items one by one, speaking to the gravestone as if addressing Nancy directly.

"These clothes were yours. Originally, I thought of making a burial mound for you, but I didn't expect we'd actually find you..."

"And these two jade pendants... When you threatened to drive me out of our home, wasn't it these you were looking for? They're yours now. I won't go back to that house anymore, and no one will fight you for anything again."

"Don't worry. Oliver is doing well in the hospital. I visit him every day."

"When he recovers, I'll bring him home to live with me. He'll grow up with Zackary, go to school together. And if he can't live like everyone else, that's okay too. I've discussed it with Xiang Kun-so long as there's a place for Zackary, there will be a place for Oliver."

Tina stood silently behind her, saying nothing.

When Jennie wiped the corners of her eyes and turned around, Tina stepped forward, held out her hand, and said, "Jennie, let's go."

Jennie took her hand and nodded. "Alright."

On the way back, Jennie felt as if a weight had been lifted from her chest. She glanced at Tina beside her and spoke from the heart, "Tina, thank you for everything regarding Nancy."

Tina didn't think it was anything special. "Jennie, there's no need for thanks between family. That's what you taught me."

Jennie nodded, looking at Tina with warmth in her eyes. "I'm so lucky to have you as my daughter."

Tina suddenly asked, "Does Ella know about this?"

Logically, Ella wouldn't ignore something this important.

Jennie gave a bitter smile and shook her head. "I didn't tell her. She holds a grudge against Nancy. Even if I told her, she wouldn't come back. It's all from so many years ago, but that child has always kept it in her heart."

Tina didn't press further. This was Jennie's family matter, something neither she nor Hugo could interfere with-especially when Ella had witnessed it all firsthand.

Everyone has their own scale of justice. Right or wrong doesn't matter; what matters is never forgiving in one's own heart.

After dropping Jennie off at her door, Tina didn't go up.

She watched as Jennie ascended the stairs, then instructed Nathan to drive to the Warren family estate.

Brandon had caused a commotion. Grandpa surely wouldn't be able to handle it. The gates of the Warren estate were locked.

Nathan walked up and rang the doorbell.

Hearing the chime, the butler groaned in frustration and yelled through the gate, "Oh no, Master Brookes, please stop coming here. Our master really isn't home..."

Tina sighed and spoke up, "It's me."

There was a pause on the other side of the gate, followed by hurried footsteps. The butler opened the door in a fluster, exclaiming, "Miss Tina, you're back!"

Tina acknowledged him with a nod. "Where's Grandpa?"

The butler eagerly replied, "He's in the study. I believe he's writing at the moment."

Tina nodded again and walked through the hall to the study at the back.

The study door was open, and Warren was deeply engrossed in his calligraphy.

Tina stood at the doorway, waiting for him to lift his brush before speaking. "Grandpa."

Startled, Warren looked up and broke into a smile. "Oh, Tina. I thought you were..." He trailed off mid-sentence.noveldrama

Tina finished it for him. "You thought it was Brandon?"

At the mention of Brandon, Warren chuckled helplessly and motioned for Tina to come closer. "I thought all the sons of the Brookes family were steady men. Who knew there'd be such a troublesome one?"

Tina sat down and said objectively, "Brandon's personality is indeed different from my uncles'."

Warren left his writing desk, poured himself a cup of tea, and placed a tray of snacks in front of Tina.

"Before your parents left, they told me that if you ever needed them, you could contact the X Bureau. The place they went to doesn't have any signal."

Tina picked up a piece of osmanthus cake, took a bite, and asked in surprise, "Brandon hasn't tried that?"

Warren sighed. "He doesn't believe in it."

Tina was speechless.

Brandon seemed to have unshakable faith in the Brookes family's intelligence network.

Seeing that Tina came alone, Warren asked casually, "Why are you here by yourself? Where's Jared?"

Tina recalled how Jared had been called away by a phone call earlier that morning. "Uncle is busy with company matters. He couldn't get away."

Warren sipped his tea. "I'd heard that Logan handed over all responsibilities to him. Seems it's true. Poor Jared, working so hard."

Tina almost choked on her snack.

Aside from Jared's father, the Farrell family didn't seem to have a single person without ulterior motives.

Logan might dream of expanding the Farrell family's legacy and spreading the wealth, but opportunities like that are rare.

After eating for a bit and drinking a warm glass of milk, Tina finally felt the chill from outside dissipate.

Warren noticed this and laughed. "You didn't just come here to see me, did you? If you have questions, just ask. There's no need for formality between us."

Tina raised an eyebrow. In truth, she had been hungry.

But since her grandfather had brought it up, she didn't hesitate. "Grandpa, what's your opinion on the Swanson family?"

"The Swanson family?" Warren echoed, surprised.

Tina nodded. "I assume you've heard about Claudia. Her disappearance doesn't mean she's gone forever. Whatever she's hiding must pose a threat to national security. But she's been so cautious that nothing has surfaced."

"The only lead we have is the Swanson family."

Warren furrowed his brow. "You're saying the Swanson family has been working for Claudia all these years?"

Tina confirmed, "Yes. The situation behind the Swanson family is incredibly complex. To put it simply, Mark is just a pawn of Claudia's. He belongs to a hidden family." Warren narrowed his eyes. "I never expected the Swanson family to be hiding such depths."

"All these years, it might not have been apparent, but I remember decades ago, the Swanson family was just a middling household. Then they took in a son-in-law, who is now their current head. The family skyrocketed in just a few years, going from middle- tier to one of the top families just below the Big Four."

"After that, they moved away from their original home and settled where they are now."

Tina's brow furrowed slightly. "The current Swanson family was rebuilt?"

Warren nodded firmly. "Yes. Back then, everyone said the location was excellent, which drew a wave of people to settle there. But in the end, no matter how good the feng shui, it can't restrain human greed. It all turns to nothing."

Tina agreed with his sentiment.

Warren saw through her thoughts immediately. "The Swanson family has been sealed off for a while now. Have they encountered problems?"

Tina hesitated briefly. "We suspect the Swanson family is hiding something for Claudia, but no useful clues have turned up."

Warren paused in thought. "The Swanson family members have either gone mad or fled. If you want to investigate, perhaps you should start from the foundation."

"I remember the Swanson family's house was designed by the Havenhart family back then. The blueprints should still exist. I'll write you a letter. The Warren family has ties with them, so they should give us this favor."

Tina made a mental note of the surname Havenhart.

But as she thought of the Swanson family, one person came to mind. "Grandpa, what about Poppy?"
