Chapter 1690
Over the past two days, Priscilla suddenly realized why so many socialites in Jipsburg, despite having numerous opportunities to meet Joe, never managed to get closer to him.
It was because Joe never gave anyone a chance-there wasn't even the smallest opening to exploit.
For example, when she handed him the yogurt drink, Joe merely glanced at it and coldly declined.
The driver gave Priscilla a sidelong glance.
Feeling slightly embarrassed, Priscilla's face warmed, but she forced a smile as she took the yogurt drink back.
Once the car exited the highway, Joe suddenly spoke, "Ms. Dunn, you'll return to your original role from the day after tomorrow."
Priscilla was shocked and looked at him in disbelief. "Mr. Martin, did I do something wrong?"
The two male colleagues in the car exchanged glances. They had been passive throughout this trip. As men, they didn't have the option of using charm to gain favor and focused solely on doing their jobs perfectly to avoid mistakes.
Priscilla, on the other hand, was ambitious, attractive, and had an impressive résumé. Although the other two might have had strong credentials, they weren't
women.
However, it turned out Joe wasn't swayed by beauty in the slightest.
Now, he just Priscilla back to her original role-much to their surprise.
"You're better suited to your previous position," Joe replied, but his response provided no real explanation.
Priscilla's face turned pale instantly. "I..."
She wanted to defend herself and persuade him to reconsider, but when she met Joe's cold, piercing gaze, she found herself unable to say anything.
Over the past two days, her intentions had been clear to him, and he was well aware of what she was trying to achieve. Thus, he responded by deciding to transfer her back.
The realization that she had lost this opportunity left her feeling resentful, but she was more afraid of losing her job entirely.
In Jipsburg, there was no better or more prestigious workplace than Martin Group.
This time, she had acted too hastily. She refused to believe there wouldn't be other chances in the future.
And she couldn't accept the idea that Joe's feelings for Skylar would remain unwavering.
...
Half a month later, Skylar was out shopping with Janine one day.
In a few days, Janine would be attending an event with Ted and needed a new gown. After finalizing the dress, the mother and daughter pair wandered around a nearby mall for a bit.
They had just sat down for coffee to take a break when Skylar received a call from an unfamiliar international number.
Seeing the unfamiliar number, she suddenly had a feeling that the caller might be Wendy.
"Skylar," a soft voice said on the other end, confirming her guess.
"How have you been?" Skylar asked gently.
Wendy's tone was relaxed when she answered with a hint of laughter, "I'm doing great. Thank you for your concern.
"Leaving Jipsburg has been
incredibly freeing, and I've gained a lot of clarity about my life. I'm truly sorry for leaving without a word and not replying to your messages."
"As long as you're doing well, that's all that matters. You haven't let anyone
down," Skylar reassured her warmly.noveldrama
What a kind-hearted young woman. Despite being deeply hurt after several years
of devotion, she still felt guilty toward those around her.
Skylar didn't know if Aiken would
regret his a actions in the future, but it
was undoubtedly his loss for hurting a wonderful young woman like Wendy.
Wendy continued, "I haven't contacted Simona, Skylar. Please don't tell her about
me. Let her think I've truly disappeared."
What do you think?
