Chapter 1705
Alina wasn't sure if Skylar had seen what had just happened.
"I saw everything," Skylar said directly. She didn't see a need to pretend she hadn't witnessed it.
Alina's face went pale again, all the color draining from her complexion. "I..."
Skylar glanced at the time. There was still an hour before her work shift, and she realized she was a little hungry. "Have you had lunch yet? How about we grab a bite to eat?"
Alina nodded.
Lost in her thoughts, Alina followed Skylar to a nearby restaurant. After ordering, Skylar poured a cup of water and handed it to Alina, hoping it might help her relax.
"Thank you," Alina said as she took a few sips. Gradually, she began to calm down.
Then she looked up at Skylar. "The person earlier was my first love. We broke up due to some misunderstandings, and today we ran into each other. I learned the truth about what happened back then and realized I had misunderstood him.
"So, I ended up chasing after him. But now that I've calmed down, I see that I was too impulsive earlier."
"Your first love?" Skylar said, surprised.
Alina lowered her head, feeling a little guilty. "When I was with Harvey, I had already decided to let go of the past. I truly believed that Harvey was the one I could spend my life with. He's a great person. I just... couldn't control my emotions earlier."
Alina paused, a deep sigh escaping her. She regretted being so hasty just now.
"Do you love Harvey?" Skylar asked, noticing that Alina had only mentioned Harvey as a great person but had not said she loved him.
Alina froze, her hand trembling slightly as she held the cup.
For a moment, she felt like Skylar could see right through her inner thoughts. She,
too, questioned herself if she truly loved Harvey.
It was a question Alina couldn't
answer right away. Between her and
Harvey, there seemed to be
something missing-something that should be present in a romantienoveldrama
relationship. There was no intense
passion, no heart-fluttering
excitement when they looked at each other.
Alina had been in a deeply emotional relationship before, and she knew what it meant to truly love someone.
To love another was to have a heart in constant motion-happy at times, sad at others, and often unsure. Above all, it was never calm.
It seemed that what Alina felt most in her relationship with Harvey was a sense of security. Harvey was a considerate person who rarely acted impulsively when faced with challenges.
Of course, there were times when he showed strength and decisiveness. But when dealing with others, his presence was commanding enough to take control of situations.
She couldn't help but wonder if that kind of intense love was something that belonged to youth. It didn't seem likely.
But to say she didn't love him felt wrong. Alina was content with Harvey. He was a reliable boyfriend.
Not long ago
She had taken him to meet her parents. Her parents, both experienced educators, were sharp at reading people. When Alina was with her ex-boyfriend, Theodore Webster, they often criticized him, saying they weren't suited for each other.
But when they met Harvey, they spoke with deep sincerity, telling her that Harvey would surely make a good husband and urging her to cherish him and stay with him.
Seeing Alina hesitate, Skylar felt a heaviness in her heart.
Harvey was her younger brother, and as his sister, Skylar naturally hoped he could have a beautiful
relationship. At the very least, she hoped they would love each other deeply, not just settle for
no
convenience.
"Alina, do you think you're with Harvey just because the time is right, and he happens to be the person who fits your life? So, you're settling into this relationship, aren't you?" Skylar asked.
The word "settling" didn't sit well with Skylar when describing their relationship. She knew Harvey truly loved Alina.
Otherwise, there wouldn't be so many photos of them together on Instagram. It seemed like there was a new post almost every day. All the signs pointed to Harvey being deeply in love.
Alina's eyes welled up with tears, and a wave of guilt washed over her. For a moment, she didn't know how to answer.
Her friends had asked her this question before. They all knew how deeply she had loved Theodore, so seeing her with Harvey, they couldn't help but wonder if she truly felt the same way.
What do you think?
