Gabriela decided to sleep on the small bed in the living room, which had wheels for easy movement, but it was difficult to take upstairs. Seeing the hope in Stella’s eyes, Eileen smiled and agreed, “Okay. She rarely wakes up at night, but if she does cry, you can have someone call us.”

“Sure!” Stella quietly wheeled Gabriela’s bed away.

Eileen then went upstairs with Bryan.

“You look exhausted. I’ll give you a massage later. Go take a shower first,” Bryan said, gently massaging Eileen’s waist. Eileen indeed felt worn out. She turned and headed into the bathroom. As soon as she did, Bryan made a call to Raymond.

“Why did you invite the Deleon family?” In the stillness of the night, Bryan’s voice cut through the study, sharper than usual.

He believed it was a mistake Raymond shouldn’t have made. On the other end of the line, Raymond hesitated. Hadn’t he acted on Bryan’s hint? Why was Bryan calling in the dead of night to question him? Was it because Eileen was nearby, listening to their call?

Thinking of this, Raymond quickly responded, “Mr. Dawson, it’s my fault. I thought we should let the Deleon family in to avoid causing trouble, so I invited them. You can punish me.”

“You’ll lose this quarter’s bonus,” Bryan replied, feeling frustrated. How could Raymond’s tone be like this after making such a mistake? He didn’t sound apologetic at all.

Raymond gritted his teeth, thinking he would have to negotiate with Bryan about his bonus later. For now, he just needed to help Bryan through this.

“Mr. Dawson, please tell Mrs. Dawson not to be upset. I won’t—” He suddenly stopped mid-sentence when he was about to say that he would never make decisions without permission in the future. He hadn’t made any decision without permission after all! Making a promise now could backfire if Eileen decided to punish him later.

She had come out of the bathroom but hadn’t seen Bryan, so she had come looking for him.

The study door was slightly ajar, and Bryan had yet to turn on the light. Eileen felt odd seeing him on the phone with someone in the dark.

She pushed open the door and walked in directly.

Bryan immediately hung up and said nothing, having just been talking to Raymond about work.

Eileen frowned. Normally, Bryan would talk about work while lying in bed with her, but tonight, he had retreated to the study for the call.
