Chapter 535 The So-called Fatherly Love
Time flew by, and before Emily knew it, August had arrived.
The summer heat lingered, but a sudden downpour had cleared some of the oppressive humidity in the air. Emily stood by the window, watching the raindrops hit the leaves, while her mind was busy planning the details of the summer exhibition.
The JM Jewelry Company's showroom needed a complete makeover, and the exhibits had to be carefully selected.
Taking a deep breath, she decided she would go to the company tomorrow to oversee everything personally.
After all, she had been on break for quite a while, and even Penelope had been urging her to get back to work.
Emily gathered her thoughts and picked up her phone to text Penelope, arranging to meet at the company at nine the next morning.
She turned to look at Harry, who was sleeping soundly, and felt a wave of warmth wash over her.
Indeed, this child was now Emily's greatest motivation and her strongest support. Just seeing him made all her fatigue disappear.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
Emily assumed it was the housekeeper returning from grocery shopping, and with Lexine busy watering the garden, she went to answer the door herself. To her surprise, the face she saw was one she hadn't expected.
Hayden.
"Dad."
Emily's lips trembled, but she finally managed to call out the once-familiar yet now- strange title.
Hayden was holding flowers and gifts. Seeing Emily being somewhat polite, he immediately broke into a smile.
"Emily, how have you been? How's my precious grandson? Has he gained a lot of weight? Look at you, back living at Emerald Lake Manor, you seem to be doing great!"
As he spoke, Hayden tried to walk into the house, but Emily instinctively blocked him, her tone calm yet distant.
"Dad, keep your voice down. Harry is still sleeping. What brings you here? Why don't we talk at the door?"
Perhaps because of the rain, Hayden had a damp smell about him, and Emily frowned. Seeing this, Hayden thought Emily was disgusted with him and his expression changed, his voice rising. "I came all this way to see my grandson, and you want me to talk at the door in the rain?"
The implication was clear: how disrespectful she was!
But did they really have any semblance of a family bond?
Emily sighed inwardly, but remembering that Hayden had raised her, she eventually stepped aside and said quietly, "I'll say it again, Harry is sleeping."
Seeing Emily's stern face, Hayden, having achieved his goal, didn't push his luck.
He walked in more quietly, though his voice was still a bit loud.
"So, are you living here alone, or with Michael?"
"If you two have reconciled, you should get remarried. The child needs a father!"
Emily pressed her lips together and responded calmly. "I'm just staying here temporarily. He usually stays at the Smith Mansion and rarely comes over." Emily knew very well why Hayden had suddenly shown up.noveldrama

When she had just given birth and was at her weakest, she had almost died at Scarlett's hands.
Where was Hayden then?
Did he not know she had given birth?
Michael was always the center of attention in Emerald City, frequently appearing at Emerald City Harmony Hospital. The reporters had written countless articles about her giving birth.
Hayden, who always read the papers, couldn't possibly have missed it.
He must have known but pretended not to.
The Brown family had always been good at lying and playing dumb, muddling through life.
And yet, they still had the nerve to come and bother her!
Emily's eyelids trembled. She didn't want to revisit the pain her original family had caused, so she took a deep breath and listened to Hayden ramble on about her and Michael, and how a child needed a complete family.
She cut him off, her gaze sharp. ;"You know a child needs a complete family? But did you ever give me one?"
Hayden was left speechless, his face turning various shades of red and white, and he eventually fell silent.
But soon, he found another topic.
"Emily, I'm really struggling on my own. The Brown Corporation is hard to manage, and I'm starting over. I need your help. After all, you'll inherit it someday, so why not help me now..."

Emily let out a cold laugh and interrupted, "Dad, you're really something.
"What does the Brown Corporation have to do with me? Didn't you always plan to leave it to Sophia? I remember you saying that in front of Evelyn and her daughter.
"I don't care about your business. I never have, so don't worry."
With that, Emily walked to the window, looking out at the distant sky, her tone calm but firm.
"I appreciate your offer. But I have my mother's company's overseas business to handle, and I'm busy with my own work."
Hayden never expected that his past neglect and coldness towards Emily would now leave him with no one to turn to. His casual words had been remembered by Emily all these years.
What was the point?
"I, I was just angry back then!"
Hayden tried to explain, but it was clear that Emily had grown a lot over the years. She saw through his false affection and shameless behavior and had learned to remain unaffected.
"Dad, I still call you Dad out of courtesy, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten everything like a fool."
Emily turned around slowly, her next words cutting like a knife.
"Do you think a few angry words can erase all the hurt? Since you came to see me today, let's get everything out in the open. I don't want to play this game anymore.
"Since you remarried and had Evelyn and her daughter, I knew you didn't care about me. To you, I was just a burden. When you were in a good mood, you'd look at me; when you weren't, you'd hit or scold me.
"I knew I had to endure it because you're my father. If you want, I'll still support you. The Brown Corporation can keep you busy, but I have one condition."
Hearing this, Hayden looked up, his eyes filled with guilt.
What do you think?
