The Heartbreak Prescription

Halsey took a step back. “Wake up, Gilbert! What you’re doing is murder-it’s against the law!”

Gilbert sneered. “I did the same to Shaun three years ago. If I did it once, I can just as easily make you disappear without a trace.”

Halsey’s long lashes trembled. “So it really was you who went after Shaun three years ago!”

Gilbert gritted his teeth. “Yeah, but the guy just wouldn’t die. He actually survived! And now, he’s come back as some hotshot in the business world. I wish he’d just die already.”

Halsey’s voice shook. “What exactly did you do to him three years ago?”

Gilbert gave a cold, twisted laugh. “He was already badly injured, so I had someone drag him into a car. We took him to the edge of a cliff. I poured acid on his face, ruined it completely, and then pushed the car off the cliff, with him still inside.” noveldrama

Halsey had suspected it, but hearing the whole story out loud made her gasp.

“You’re a monster! You actually threw acid on his face?”

Gilbert laughed manically. “It was all because of you! You fell for him! He was just some broke nobody back then, but he still managed to outshine me in every way. And you fell in love with him! You were all drawn to that pretty face of his, weren’t you? So I made sure to destroy it!”

It turned out that a man’s jealousy might be the scariest thing of all. Gilbert had actually gone so far as to disfigure Shaun.

“You did all of that, and then pinned it on me, didn’t you?” Halsey snarled. “You made Shaun think I was the one who tried to

kill him.”

Gilbert chuckled. “So you figured it out?”

“That’s right. I know everything now! All the while, Shaun thought I was with you, and that I wanted him dead. But you’re the one behind it all! I never did a damn thing. You framed me! How can you be so cruel? It wasn’t enough to try to kill him-you broke his spirit!”

“That’s exactly what I wanted,” Gilbert hissed. “I wanted him dead and heartbroken. I wanted to tear you two apart so you could never be together. I wanted him to hate you!”

Halsey was shaking with rage. “Your plan will never work!”

Gilbert sneered, “Hah! Once I send you to your grave, Shaun will lose you forever. If I can’t have you, then he sure as hell won’t.

He’ll never beat me!”

Halsey laughed coldly. “You know what? Deep down, you’re just insecure, aren’t you?”

Gilbert froze. His face twisted. “What did you just say?”

“Am I wrong? You’re insecure. You’ve always known you’re not as good as Shaun. Even when he had nothing, people still loved him. And since you couldn’t beat him fairly, you turned to disgusting, dirty tricks, even breaking the law. Honestly, I have no respect for you.”

She said she had no respect for him.

Those words, from the woman he loved, filled Gilbert with rage. His face contorted, and he lunged forward, grabbing Halsey by the neck.

“No! Say you love me!”

Halsey’s breath hitched as Gilbert’s grip tightened around her throat. The air was getting thinner, and her face started to turn red.

“I won’t!” she choked out.

Gilbert’s fingers squeezed harder. “This is your last chance. Say it or I’ll kill you right now!”

“Fine… I’ll say it,” she whispered.

Gilbert’s face lit up. “Go on!”

Halsey stared right at him and said each word clearly, “I love Shaun. The one I love is Shaun!”
