Chapter 684 Marcus is the Biggest Problem
Timothy and Mason followed Elijah to the restaurant across the street. Elijah had already eaten, but neither Timothy nor Mason minded. The three of them sat down, ordered a few dishes, and then started talking.
Elijah explained the whole situation in detail, including Maverick and the people of Ashford Vale. Of course, he didn't forget to praise Marcus.
By the time he finished, Timothy and Mason were frowning so hard they looked like they could trap a mosquito between their brow.
"Marcus was supposed to bring Nat for a honeymoon, only to go to a remote and dangerous place like that? Doesn't he know that remote land fosters undesirable characters?"
Timothy's face darkened, and he didn't bother being polite. "Even if he can protect Natalie, she's pregnant! Having her walk such long mountain roads, what if something unexpected happens?"
"Mr. Timothy, you can't say that. While it's true some bad people do come out of remote places, there are also good kids like Lynette, Sue, and Ann," Elijah objected. "It's their parents who are awful. It has nothing to do with them."
"Elijah, we aren't talking about the girls right now," Timothy said. "The biggest problem here is Marcus. We all thought and believed that he was really taking Nat on a honeymoon.
"Who in their right mind would take their wife to such a remote place for a honeymoon? If something happened to them out there, no one would've known!"
"Mr. Timothy, I don't agree," Elijah argued. "Mrs. Natalie picked the location, and we came along as well.
"Since she thinks it's meaningful, Mr. Marcus would surely support her fully. Besides, he listens to her about everything. She completely has him wrapped around her finger.
"If Mrs. Natalie decided on something, do you think Mr. Marcus would dare object? Mr. Timothy, why do you think so badly of Mr. Marcus?"
Timothy let out a sarcastic laugh. "Nat is indeed strong-willed and kind, but does Marcus not know how to pick the right time for things?"noveldrama
"Mr. Timothy, you're wrong again. You just said it yourself that Mrs. Natalie is strong-willed and kind. So what's wrong with Mr. Marcus standing by her side and supporting her?
"Mrs. Natalie has experienced hardships herself, so it's only natural that she wants to shelter the girls from suffering. Should Mr. Marcus stop her and let the other girls suffer instead?
"Mr. Timothy, you wouldn't want Mrs. Natalie to become a widow right after getting married, would you?"
"You" Timothy was fuming.
"Timothy, calm down." Mason quickly held Timothy back. "Relax. I think Elijah has a point. Marcus listens to Nat about everything, which means she holds a higher position in the family!"
Mason had always admired Marcus. Most of the time, out of the five Walker brothers, he was probably the only one who openly took Marcus' side.
"Timothy, think about it. If Marcus never lets Nat do anything she wants, wouldn't she have no freedom at all? But now, whatever she wants to do, not only does he not stop her, he even joins her.
"She wears the pants in the relationship. Now that Marcus cherishes her and loves her, as her brothers, shouldn't we be happy about that?"
"Mason, whose side are you on?" Timothy shot Mason a glare. "Sometimes, I think you're more like Marcus' brother than ours!"
"Are you saying that Nat being pregnant isn't important? What about her going to dangerous places and dealing with shady people?"
"Timothy, you can't say that." Mason looked aggrieved. "Marcus didn't know Nat was pregnant. If he had known, I guarantee he wouldn't have let her come to a place like that. Isn't that right, Elijah?"
Elijah quickly nodded. "Mr. Mason is absolutely right. If you two hadn't mentioned it just now, I wouldn't have even known that Mrs. Natalie was pregnant.
"If Mr. Macus knew, forget about coming to a place like this. Even if she wanted to take a walk in the garden at home, he'd have people carefully watching over her every step. He wouldn't have let her come here and do something so dangerous. But still, what Mrs. Natalie is doing is really meaningful. She's not just helping Lynette, Sue, and Ann, but she's saving all the girls in the area.
"Mr. Timothy, Mr. Mason, you guys didn't know, I didn't either, but there are really many places out there that are still dirt-poor and backward.
"Those kids there don't even get a chance to go to school. They're really pitiful. Mrs. Natalie is truly admirable."
As Elijah spoke, his eyes reddened. "There are a few girls there named Una, Dossie, and Tressa. Their parents keep having kids just for the sake of getting a
son.
"Can you believe that in this day and
age, people are still so obsessed with having boys? Think about it, if the parents finally have a son, what would happen to the three girls?"
Elijah, a rough man not known for being sentimental, was on the verge of tears. "Even someone like me feels for the girls. Mr. Timothy, how can you be that heartless?"
Timothy was speechless.
That wasn't what they were talking about. The issue was that Natalie was pregnant, and Marcus wasn't taking good care of her. That was the problem.
"Timothy, don't get mad. We're not talking about you here. What we need to do now is to criticize Marcus."
Mason quickly held Timothy back and glanced at Elijah. "Go get Marcus here. He's in for a scolding."
Elijah caught the hint immediately and stood up obediently. "I'll go get Mr. Marcus."
After Elijah left, Mason looked at
Timothy with a flattering smile. "Timothy, don't be mad at Marcus Back when he was engaged to Emma we never had the chance to yell at him. We were all intimidated by him.
"Now, he loves Nat, just like we do. That's why he's willing to bow down for love. Remember to hold back a little."
"You're really siding with an outsider." Timothy was annoyed. "Are you saying we were scared of Marcus before?"
"Timothy, come on now. Can you honestly say you weren't afraid of him in the past?"
Timothy fell silent.
Back then, Marcus was cold and distant toward everyone in the Walker family. He didn't even bother to look at them properly, let alone please them.
Now that he'd married Natalie, his attitude toward them was drastically different. He was respectful and polite, making it hard for them to find fault with him.
Timothy sighed. "Mason, I admit you have a point. But this time, I'm still going to scold him. Even if she wasn't pregnant, didn't you hear what Elijah said about that place?
"The people there are that unreasonable, practically savages. Why didn't Marcus bring more people with him?"
"Timothy, now you're being unreasonable." Mason rolled his eyes. "Elijah said it was their first time there. Nat arranged everything, so what the hell would Marcus even know?
"Believe me. Now that he's been there once, the next time, he'll be fully prepared. He'll be even more thorough than Natalie ever was."
Mason smoothly changed his tone, trying to butter Timothy up. "I've asked Elijah
to call Marcus over. You can scold him however you like, and then we'll put this
behind us.
"Now that Nat is pregnant, she
needs to stay happy. If she finds out
that you criticized Marcus too-
harshly, she'll be upset. When that
happens, it'll affect the baby she's
carrying.
"If the baby is unhappy, Nat won't be happy either. Then it'll all spiral into a vicious
cycle. So Timothy, don't stay mad anymore!"
What do you think?
