The Pack's Doctor

Chapter 226

Cyra

I could tell that Yorick was furious. Mostly, his fury was directed at Stellan and the alliance bond, but he was also furious at whatever Stellan used to taunt him. I have no doubt that's what he did. When I'd seen Yorick pummeling Stellan like he intended to kill him, I'd quickly called for Zach and Landon to help. Thankfully, Chase had come running too because it took all three of them to pull Yorick off Stellan,

Now, Yorick wants to know what I haven't told him. I take his hand, careful of his bloody knuckles.

"Come with me, Yorick," I say. There are too many prying eyes here.

Knowing Yorick the way that I do now, I should have told him from the beginning, but being a second son, just like Stellan, I had worried about his reaction. Of course, the two men are night and day, but Stellan wasn't always the way he is

now.

As Yorick allows me to lead him back inside, I think back to my discussion with Stellan earlier.

"I don't care that he's your fated mate, Cyra. You're in an alliance bond. Breaking that bond means war. Is that what you want?" he'd asked, basically threatening

me.

"Of course not, Stellan! But do"" Want a chance to find your fated mate too?" I'd asked him.

"This alliance isn't about love, Cyra. It's an agreement. We can be friends, we can be civil. But you will bear me an heir. Beyond that, I don't care what you do with your life. Be with your mate, I won't stop you."

As if I could ever leave my son. How could he even think that I would do that? Like I'm nothing more than a breeder to him. Well, that and a means to an

end.

When we get to my room, I look over his hands. His knuckles are a mess.

"What don't I know, Cyra?" he growls.

Just then his phone rings. He looks at the caller ID and answers.

"This isn't a good time."

"I'll be right back," I tell him, grabbing a washcloth and taking it to the bathroom. My mind is spinning. I have to tell him. It won't change anything, or maybe it will change everything. I don't know. But he's right about one thing, I can't leave him in the dark any longer.

When I get back to my room, he's pacing. When I open the door, he turns and looks at me with so much anger in his eyes.

"Yorick?"

"When were you going to tell me, Cyra? When, huh? I've been beating myself over the head trying to figure out why your father entered you into an alliance bond. I figured it had something to do with money or power, that's what they're usually about, but you never once mentioned that you were an only child, Cyra. Even when I asked about a brother, you never corrected me. You just let me think there was a brother. But there isn't, is there? There is no brother and Stellan is a second son and he won't break this bond even though he's found his fated mate because then he will never be Alpha. Did I get that right?"

"Stellan found his fated mate?" I ask, stunned. He didn't mention that he'd found her, but it makes so much sense now.

Yorick growls and stalks toward me until he is in my face.

"Are you or are you not an only child, Cyra?"

"Yes," I whisper. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you..I begin. He holds up a hand and turns, walking away from me.

"You let me touch you. You let me enter your body. You told me you loved me. But you didn't trust me with this? Why?" The hurt in his voice makes my Chapter 226

heart feel like it's going to shatter.

"Stellan wasn't the same after the bond was signed. He became different. I didn't know your well, Yorick. I only know that you were a second con trang to make his way in this world too. 1... I wanted to be more to you than a stepping stone to becoming an Alpha of your own pack."

He turns to look at me and his eyes are filled with hurt. "And in all the time that we've spent together, I never showed you that I didn't care where you come from or what your rank is? That I only care about you? That I care that you're my mate? That I care about us being together? With everything that we've shared and talked about, that never came through?"

"I'm sorry," I say. "I was scared."

"I've been working my ass off to try and find a way to get you out of that alliance bond, Cyra. Not because I want to be an Alpha of my own pack FUCK! The pack is yours, not mine. Why the fuck would I try to take it away from you? All I wanted was you, Cyra."

He shakes his head. "I have to get out of here. I nearly killed him, the future Alpha

of your pack. That would have started a war, Cyra. And yet, I would still have done it. For you," he says.

He steps around me, walking to the door.

"Yorick..."

He stops, his hand on the knob and turns to me. "Do you know what he said to me? He said I could have you after you give him an heir. You could choose between your son and me. That's the kind of man who you are bound to, Cyra. I am nothing like that. You should have trusted me," he growls before ripping the door open and walking out, slamming it closed behind him.

I collapse onto the floor, sobbing as Rina howls for her mate in my head.

I curl into a ball on the floor of my room and lose all track of time. Eventually,

someone knocks on my door. I lift my nose and when I don't smell Yorick, 1 ignore them.

"Cyra, open up," Piper says.

When I don't respond, she bangs on the door again, then turns the knob and walks in. She stares at me lying on the floor, then steps in and closes the

door.

She comes over and sits beside me, resting her hand on my arm.

"I'm not going to lie to you. You fucked up. You fucked up royally. We've all been working to help you, Cyra, but you've left out a key piece of the puzzle that's now made everything more clear," she says.

"I know."

"Do you? You're not alone now, Cyra. Stop acting like you are. Grow a fucking pair of balls and stop acting like you have no choice but to bind yourself to shit- for-brains Stellan. Start helping us look for a way out. A real way out for you, Cyra. We can't want this more than you do. You have to want it too."

"You don't think I want out of this alliance bond?" I ask, incensed.

"You sure as shit don't act like it. Not when you're lying, even if it is by omission, to your friends who are trying to get you out of this bond. Stop working against us, Cyra, and start working with us. You're an Alpha heir, Cyra. That gives you power." "No, it puts me in chains," I growl. "Why do you think I won't let Stellan wage war on my pack? Who is leading that war agai pack? Me? My father who is a misogynistic prick who doesn't believe women can lead packs? Our pack is strong, but they Christer's and my father and I both know that." "Alpha Christer is..."

"Stellan's brother, the Alpha of their pack."

"So, is Stellan really such a douche that he's willing to put his mate bond on holdnoveldrama

to become Alpha of your pack?" she asks.

"Apparently so. He didn't mention the fated mate to me. But he did to Yorick," I

say.

Piper is quiet long enough that I look at her. She glances at me, then goes back to thinking.

"Piper?"

"I have two questions that we need to answer, Cyra. First, why did your father enter into this agreement?"

"He's a misogynistic pig?" I ask.

"That may be so, but the odds of your mate not being another Alpha are slim. Yorick is a perfectly acceptable option to take over your pack. Better than Stellan,

if you ask me. So what is your father getting out of this?"

I don't have an answer to that.

"And second, who is Stellan's fated mate and how does she feel about being put on the back burner while he fucks you until you give him an heir? Best case scenario for her is that he breaks the bond with you after that and takes her as his Luna, which isn't likely because it's your pack. Worst case scenario, he plans to keep her as a mistress. I'd love to know her rank and how she feels about all of this because, as they say, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

"I'm a woman scorned," I say to her.

"Then maybe, my friend, you should start acting like it."
