Chapter 52
-
Nancy forced herself to close her eyes but couldn't stop recalling the doctor's words.
"Ms. Gonzalez, your husband's condition is quite concerning. He was injured twice, and the second injury has caused a severe concussion and memory loss."
Outside, the sound of rain grew louder as if it wanted to drown out all other noises.
Nancy's frustration grew. She wasn't perfect, but just letting Judson sleep on the floor for one night had caused him to come down with a fever. And with that awful downpour...
She had something to do with his memory loss. With a click of her tongue, Nancy abruptly threw off the
covers.
As Nancy opened the door, she saw Judson, drenched in the rain, curled up at her doorstep.
Judson was hugging himself tightly, his handsome face pale as a ghost. Even his breathing was rapid. He looked like a forsaken little animal.noveldrama
Nancy cursed under her breath, no longer caring about the pouring rain as she hurried to pull Judson inside. "Let's get you back in."
Groggy, Judson opened his eyes and looked up at Nancy in surprise. "Babe, get back inside. It's raining," he said before attempting to stand up unsteadily, only to stumble and fall into Nancy's arms.
Nancy took a few steps back under his weight, then quickly steadied him. "Easy there."
After helping Judson to the couch, she intended to make him comfortable there.
But Judson, struggling, raised his hand to wipe the rain off Nancy's face. "Nancy, don't be mad. I know I messed up. If you don't want me calling you 'Babe,' I'll call you Nancy, okay? You should go and take a shower. You're soaking wet."
Nancy's lips pressed into a thin line, feeling an unexplainable tightness in her chest. Maybe it was because she had never seen anyone care about her feelings like this.
"I know. Just sit down for a second. I'll grab a towel and a bathrobe."
After ensuring Judson settled on the couch, Nancy headed for the shower.
Judson let out a muffled acknowledgment, sounding almost relieved.
When Nancy came down after her shower, she found Judson asleep in the bathrobe, his brow furrowed, indicating a restless sleep, his cheeks alarmingly flushed.
Touching his forehead, Nancy confirmed he had a fever again.
Thinking quickly, she grabbed some cold medicine from the drawer, gently shaking him awake. "Judson, take this medicine before you sleep."
Judson fluttered open his eyes, his gaze unfocused.
Nancy frowned, preparing to help him with the medicine. But before she could react, the capsule and the glass of water clattered onto the floor.
The next moment, Nancy found herself pinned under Judson on the couch.
His weight felt heavy on her, and as he shifted, the belt of his bathrobe slipped loose, pressing his skin against hers and making their breaths mix.
Nancy's skin prickled with unease, instinctively pushing against Judson's shoulders. "Get off me!"
"Babe, it hurts so much," Judson mumbled into Nancy's embrace, his voice trailing into steady breathing. His arms wrapped tightly around Nancy's slender waist, showing no intention of letting go.
Nancy's brows knitted together, unable to push Judson off her. "Judson, let go of me first..."
But the man atop her was sound asleep, and his breathing was deep and even.
Nancy bit her cheek, regretting letting the situation escalate to this point. She had thought she wouldn't be able to sleep so close to someone else, but as the sound of rain continued outside and Judson's scent filled her senses, she eventually drifted off.
Deep into the night, far from the intertwined duo, Cyrus was seething, clutching his phone. "What did you say? Nancy put 'Only You' and our wedding ring up for auction, and someone else bought them?"
What do you think?
