Ultimate Evolution I Became the Master of the World

Chapter 88 The Code Name of the Sick Ghost

The lack of smarts, plus the fact that a Ghost Handler bit the dust on day one in Stormcrest Village, had everyone on edge.

Sure, Ghost Handlers dying from ghost resurrections was nothing new, but for someone like Kieran to go down quietly by some unknown ghost? That was weird.

Basically, the ghosts here were way scarier than anyone thought; otherwise, Kieran wouldn't have gone down so easily.

Leonidas' words left everyone speechless.

"What you said lines up with what Michael mentioned earlier. He also said the ghosts in Stormcrest Village weren't after people but the ghosts inside us," Tom said, taking a deep breath.

Leonidas was a solid and smart guy.

When Michael said it, it sounded nuts, but coming from Leonidas, it hit differently.

Plus, the proof was right there. Kieran was dead, but the woman wasn't.

It was clear that the ghost spared the regular person and went for the Ghost Handler, Kieran, letting the woman live.

"Really? Michael said that too?" Leonidas looked up a bit, "I heard you guys say Michael was a nutjob. Guess I need to rethink that."

He had figured out this key info from Kieran's death.

But Michael had known it earlier, which meant Michael was sharper than him.

If Michael was really a crazy, unstable guy, how could he have known this?

"He did say that, but we didn't buy it. Now that you say it too, we gotta believe it," Tom said.

Michael, who had come to check things out, shrugged when he heard this, "Maybe I should keep my distance while you guys chat. Someone wanted to play target practice with me earlier."

"Shut up," Jaxon snapped, still pissed.

Leonidas, puffing on a smoke, said, "I think we should bail. Michael, what do you think? A ghost going after other ghosts is out of our league. This job isn't as simple as we thought. The company must have some hidden agenda; otherwise, they wouldn't offer a way to control a second ghost as a reward."

"Big rewards come with big risks, and it looks like that's true now." Michael grinned, "Got an exit plan? Without controlling a second ghost to slow down the ghost resurrection, how long do you think you'll last?"

They came here knowing the risks, ready to do or die.

Leaving now was smart but also meant giving up hope of survival.

"Dying from ghost resurrection is better than getting killed by this ghost. Michael, we can't ignore the fear of death. We don't want to die here for nothing," James shot back.

Michael said, "Anyway, if you want to leave, go ahead. Head back to the club, drink, chat, bully newbies, and wait to die. Just make sure to pick a good burial spot. Oh, I wonder if anyone will visit our graves after we're gone."

James was fuming but couldn't argue with Michael.

Michael was right; going back meant waiting to die.

"Staying here to solve this supernatural mess and finishing the job gives us a shot at survival. And with more people working together, our chances are better. But the ghost has already started moving, so we need to decide fast." Leonidas flicked his cigarette butt, "Stay or leave, make a choice. I say we leave."

"I'm in," James said.

Tom hesitated, "I think if we stick together, we still have a shot. It's normal to take hits at first without knowing the ghost. I say we stay."

"I say we stay," Michael chimed in with a grin, "Not sure if my outsider opinion counts, though."

"Jaxon, what about you?" Leonidas asked, eyeing him, "You're hurt; your pant leg's bleeding."

Jaxon looked grim. "It's nothing."

"I think we should stay. We're running out of time before ghost resurrection hits us all. How long can we last if we bail? Solving this supernatural mess and getting the method to delay ghost resurrection is our only shot," Jaxon said, putting his grudge against Michael aside for the sake of survival.

"As long as there's even a sliver of hope, it's worth a shot," Jaxon added.

"A gambler's mindset?" Leonidas lit another cigarette. He knew the odds of surviving this were slim.

But even if the path ahead was a nightmare, they had no choice but to face it because there was no turning back.

"Since three of us agree to stay, let's give it a go," Leonidas said. "From what we've seen, the ghost is targeting us. Splitting up would be dumb. From now on, we stick together, grudges or not."

"A bunch of guys together can lead to trouble," Michael said, sounding worried.

Leonidas exhaled smoke, "These are desperate times. You need to understand that the ghost can silently take out a Ghost Handler."

"Alright, but you missed one thing. There might be more than one ghost here now." Michael pointed to Kieran's body on the ground.noveldrama

"You're right. Kieran's ghost has probably escaped, so there might be two ghosts in the village," Leonidas said.

"How much do you know about Kieran's ghost's abilities?" Michael asked.

"Not much. He rarely came to the club and was always a bodyguard for some CEO. He almost never used his ghost's power in front of us, so we can't really say," Tom shook his head.

Michael smiled, "Great, another unknown ghost."

"But whatever. If he didn't die from ghost resurrection, his ghost's terror level isn't that high. Our priority now is to find the ghost in Stormcrest Village. I nicknamed it the Sick Ghost. You must've heard that weak coughing sound," Michael said.

No one disagreed.

Then he said, "Here's a map of Stormcrest Village. I drew it myself, but it should be clear enough."

Michael pulled out a piece of paper and spread it out. It was a simple hand-drawn map with lines and squares.

"When did you draw this?" Tom asked, surprised.

Michael looked puzzled, "You didn't? How can you catch a ghost without knowing the layout?"

"Alright," Tom said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

The others felt a bit sheepish too. They hadn't thought that far ahead.

"The lines are roads, the squares are houses. These are the spots where we chased the footsteps to." Michael pointed at the map, "And in the middle of these three points is this house. The footsteps vanished here. You should know this house well."

Leonidas' hand shook, "The house at the village entrance where the funeral is? There's a coffin in the main hall."

"Yep, that's the one. We ended up behind it, and if we go around to the front, we can see the coffin," Michael nodded.

"I knew something was off. On the first day in the village, we ran into a funeral, with a coffin in the main hall. It was obviously weird," Tom cursed.

"Should we go over?" Jaxon asked.

"Of course," James said.
