Chapter 0987

It was hard to tell how long it took, but Madison finally calmed down. The first full sentence she blurted out was, “Seb, are you crazy?”

Then came, “Or did someone put a spell on you?

And finally, “How… How could you possibly like me?”

The whole situation was so overwhelming that she couldn’t help but stammer.

Sebastian’s tone was calm, but his gaze told a different story. “I’m not crazy, and no, under a spell. Is it really that hard to believe I like you?”

I’m not

“But I’m overweight, unattractive, lazy, and a glutton. I’ve got no willpower–I keep saying I’ll lose weight, but I never do. Even running every day takes you pushing me out the door…” Madison’s voice trailed off as she wondered how someone like him could possibly like someone like her.

As if a thought had crossed her mind, her expression turned oddly suspicious for a moment. You… you’re not into me because my family owns all those properties in Gulsberg, are you? Are you planning to take over so you can become the landlord someday?”

His lips twitched, and his expression seemed to say, “Let’s see what other ridiculous excuses you can come up with.‘

“But that doesn’t make sense.” Madison scratched her head as she struggled to find the right response.

She continued, “With your family’s status, you can have anything you want and even houses too. You can probably buy all the properties in Gulsberg if you want. Could it be… money? That’s even less likely. Your family has more of that than they know what to do with…”

“Enough with the guessing,” Sebastian said helplessly. “You do realize how advanced data monitoring is nowadays, right? If you keep talking, my family might get flagged for investigation by tomorrow morning.”

She let out a sheepish chuckle and looked apologetic.

Sebastian’s tone turned serious. “You’re not overweight, but you’re definitely not unattractive. You’re not a glutton–you’re just a foodie.”

་་

He continued, “And you’re not lazy. You just don’t like working out. Everyone has something they don’t like–just like I don’t care for golf or volleyball.

“I’ve seen you completely absorbed in your lab work, running the same dull experiments a hundred times until you get the results you want. I’ve seen you stay late to run data. You could barely keep your eyes open from exhaustion, but you kept going anyway. It’s not that you lack willpower, you just channel it into the things that truly matter to you.

“You’re optimistic, always smiling, full of energy, and generous with your snacks. You know

how to comfort others with just the right words. Every part of you makes me like you more, and every time, it sends my heart racing.”

Madison’s mind went blank as she listened. Was he really describing her?

“Don’t doubt it,” Sebastian added. “I’m talking about you.”

She hesitated before saying, “I… I’m not that great.” She looked down while two faint blushes crept up her cheeks.

Sebastian took a deep breath. “Madison, will you be my girlfriend?”

“Huh?” Her head shot up, startled.

“What do you mean, ‘huh‘?”

Her eyes widened. “You actually want me to be your girlfriend?”

Sebastian gave her an exasperated but amused look. Did you think I was just saying all that for fun?”

“But… I’ve never been anyone’s girlfriend before.”

He cleared his throat. “That doesn’t matter.‘

“So, what’s the benefit of being your girlfriend?

Sebastian was caught off guard for a few seconds

Taking advantage of his silence, Madison grabbed her bag and dashed off. “Anyway, I’m clocking out. I’ve got some stuff to do, so I’m not giving you a ride. Take a cab home, okay? Bye.”

With that, she ran away without even taking off her lab coat.

Sebastian was dumbfounded and stared at her running figure.

She might’ve gotten away for now, but he wasn’t worried. She could run, but she couldn’t hide forever.
