Chapter 1849
"Wilfred, hold her tight!" Karina shouted, seizing the moment as Wilfred wrestled the girl under control.
Ignoring the discomfort of her gasoline-soaked clothes clinging to her skin, Karina bolted toward the water truck parked by the roadside.noveldrama
The girl, realizing what was happening, thrashed desperately in Wilfred's unrelenting grip, her voice raw and piercing as she screamed, "Don't even think about escaping! None of you are getting out of this unscathed!" Veins bulged on Wilfred's forehead as he tightened his hold, his voice a thunderous roar. "Calm down now!"
Meanwhile, Karina had already reached the water truck by now, scrambling up into the driver's seat with both hands and feet in her haste.
The door slammed shut with a loud clang that echoed sharply through the still night.
She climbed in with urgency, her hands trembling as she fumbled to start the vehicle. Her eyes scanned the unfamiliar dashboard, taking in the array of buttons and levers.
Sweat mixed with the gasoline on her forehead, stinging her eyes. She blinked rapidly, her fingers slipping as she fought to find the ignition.
Suddenly, a rough cough broke the silence inside the cab. Karina whipped around, startled, to see the driver in the back seat, roused from his nap by the commotion.
The man blinked groggily, confused by the scene unfolding around him. Karina didn't wait for an explanation, her voice rising in desperation. "Sir, please help! There's a fire behind us! If we don't start the water truck now, everyone's in serious danger!" The urgency in her voice jolted the driver awake instantly. He leaned forward, his eyes darting past Karina to the chaos outside.
Through the window, he spotted the girl thrashing wildly in Wilfred's grip. Nearby, a small flame had ignited in a gasoline puddle, its edges already crawling and spreading rapidly toward them.
Thick smoke began to rise, choking the air.
The driver's face went pale, but years of professional experience kicked in. Without a word, he shoved Karina aside gently, sliding into the driver's seat. His hands moved swiftly over the controls, his feet slamming down on the clutch and accelerator in a seamless sequence of actions.
The engine roared to life, and the truck shuddered under its power.
"Hold on tight!" the driver bellowed, slamming the lever controlling the water cannon forward.
In an instant, the once-silent water cannon roared to life like a beast awakened. A powerful jet of water surged forward, arching through the air like a shimmering curtain before slamming down squarely on the flames.
The sharp hiss of water meeting fire
echoed loudly, filling the air with thick steam that quickly blurred everyone's vision. Under the
unrelenting pressure of the water et
the flames sputtered and died, extinguished in mere moments. All that remained was a charred, water-soaked patch of ground-a stark reminder of the danger that
had just passed.
Karina's body, tense with fear and adrenaline, finally gave out. She slumped into the seat, gasping for air, as tears streamed down her face. The relief of survival mixed with the terror of what could have been, overwhelming her completely.
Wilfred seized the moment to
restrain the girl. His hands clamped around her wrists like iron shackles, holding her firmly in place. Without the fire to fuel her resolve, the girl's strength crumbled. She collapsed to the ground, her sobs breaking into gasping cries.
The driver, now with a moment to process, turned to Karina, his face filled with shock and disbelief. "Miss, what in the world just happened?"
Karina started to reply, but the distant sound of police sirens pierced through the night, growing louder and closer with each passing second.
Moments later, a patrol car pulled up and came to a steady stop beside them. The officers moved swiftly, taking control of the scene with calm efficiency. The girl was handcuffed and escorted into the back of the patrol car, her cries fading as the doors closed.
A female officer approached Karina, draping a blanket gently over her shoulders. Her tone was soft but steady. "It's okay, we'll handle this from here. Please come with us to the station to give a statement, but take a moment to catch your breath first." Turning to the driver, she added, "Sir, we'll need you to come along as well to assist with the investigation."
As they climbed into the police car, Karina and Wilfred sat close together, their hands tightly clasped.
