CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery

Chapter 1850

Karina's body was still trembling slightly, and Wilfred gently pulled her into his arms, his chin resting lightly on the top of her head. He stroked her back in soothing, rhythmic motions, his touch warm and comforting.

Inside the police car, the atmosphere was heavy with tension. The flashing red and blue lights reflected off the windows, casting faint shadows over their exhausted faces.

Karina buried her face in Wilfred's chest, her ears filled with the steady, reassuring rhythm of his heartbeat. Gradually, that calm, regular sound helped steady her breathing.

After a long moment, she slowly lifted her head, her eyes meeting Wilfred's, full of worry and tenderness. Warmth spread through her chest as she whispered, her voice shaking, "We made it through... we almost didn't... it was so close..." Her words trailed off into quiet sobs.

Wilfred lifted a hand and gently wiped the lingering tears from her cheek with his thumb. His voice was hoarse but firm. "Don't be afraid. It's over now. I'm here."

Those few words, simple yet resolute, gave Karina's unsettled heart a place to rest.noveldrama

The female officer in the front seat turned around, offering them two bottles of water. Her voice was soft, almost motherly. "Drink some water, take a moment to recover. Once we finish the statements at the station, you can go home and rest."

Karina accepted a bottle with a quiet "Thank you," but her hand remained tightly clasped around Wilfred's, as though letting go would mean losing him.

At the police station, the bright fluorescent lights felt almost blinding. They followed the officers into the interview room, recounting the events in painstaking detail.

Every time Karina spoke of the most harrowing moments, her face would pale, and Wilfred stayed by her side, holding her hand in silent support.

By the time they finished, dawn had broken, and the soft morning light spilled over the courtyard outside the station.

Wilfred hailed a cab, helping Karina into the back seat before sliding in beside her.

As the taxi sped through the streets, Karina leaned wearily against Wilfred's shoulder, her gaze fixed on the passing scenery outside the window. The familiar yet distant shops and pedestrians blurred together, as if shrouded in a dreamlike haze.

"Wilfred," she said softly, her voice

Wilfred tightened his grip on her hand, nodding slightly. "Yes, from now on, no matter what storms come our way, I'll protect you."

When they arrived home, sunlight streamed through the curtains, scattering warm, golden patches on the floor.

Karina headed straight to the

Meanwhile, Wilfred went to the kitchen. He prepared two bowls of steaming pasta, each topped with a perfectly poached egg and a sprinkle of chopped parsley.

When Karina emerged, freshly dressed and looking much calmer, the comforting aroma of the pasta greeted her. The bowls sat neatly on the table, steam curling upward like a gentle invitation. Wilfred pulled out a chair for her and said softly, "Eat something. You need to regain your strength."

Karina sat down, picking up her utensils. As she looked at the simple but thoughtful meal, her eyes grew misty. She sniffled and murmured, "Thank you, Wilfred."

Wilfred reached out and gently patted her head. He was about to speak when his phone buzzed loudly in his pocket.

Frowning slightly, a sense of unease crept over him as he pulled it out. The caller ID showed it was the police station. He quickly answered.

When the call ended, Wilfred turned to Karina, his expression serious.

"It was the police. Their initial examination suggests that the girl might have an underlying mental illness. It's likely that her condition had been dormant, but the extreme emotional stress triggered her symptoms, causing her to lose control."

Karina's brows furrowed as she absorbed this. "That explains why she wouldn't listen to reason. She was completely out of control, like a different person."
