Chapter 838
As Chloe looked at the four brothers, she couldn't help but notice the family resemblance. But when she turned her gaze towards Chloe, she saw a striking similarity in their eyes and eyebrows too. Especially when Chloe smiled, it was uncanny how much she looked like them.
Ever since that night when Ruby suggested that Chloe might be their child, Neil had been unable to shake the thought. He'd been quietly digging into it ever since and had uncovered some interesting clues. He was about seventy to eighty percent sure but didn't want to jump to conclusions and risk getting everyone's hopes up without solid evidence.noveldrama
Neil broke the silence, "Have you noticed how Chloe doesn't look anything like her biological mother, Ellen?"
Ruby was caught off guard. It was their first time meeting Ellen today. She was the epitome of a Southern belle, with delicate features and a petite frame. But Chloe had a vibrant presence, with striking features, high cheekbones, and those big, bright eyes that seemed to hold entire galaxies, hinting at a mixed heritage. She looked nothing like Ellen.
Ruby glanced at Neil. He had that striking look himself-thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a prominent nose. In his younger days, he was like a romance novel hero. Ruby had fallen for him instantly. Neil had a quarter of mixed heritage, giving his eyes an intense, captivating allure.
All four of Ruby's sons took after her more, though they were handsome in their own right. They didn't have those striking, bold features. But bizarrely, Ruby saw the same striking allure in Chloe that reminded her of Neil.
Her heart skipped a beat. "Neil, what are you getting at?"
Neil continued, "There's a real chance Chloe is our daughter."
Ruby felt herself sway slightly. "What did you say?"
Neil pressed on, "I've been digging into what happened back at St. Mary's. I tracked down a nurse who was there when you gave birth. After Willow was born, you had a pulmonary embolism and were in critical condition. I didn't get to see our baby. A nurse whisked her away te the neonatal unit. When we saw our daughter again, she was lifeless. We just assumed the baby in the crib, the one who wasn't breathing, was ours."
Ruby started to piece things together. Her fingers turned cold and trembled a bit.
Neil went on, "I asked the nurse if our child had any distinguishing features or birthmarks. She said there were none."
Ruby felt something was off. "When we buried Willow, I held her. She had a distinct crescent moon-shaped birthmark on her temple. I
remember it clearly."
Indeed, the child they buried had a moon-shaped birthmark hidden beneath her
hair.
"I asked the nurse. She said she
bathed Willow and washed her hair, and she was sure Willow didn't have a birthmark on her forehead. She said our baby was lively and healthy during her bath, not at all like a child who would pass away hours later."
Ruby's heart pounded, ready to leap out of her chest. But her mind stayed sharp, analyzing the situation.
"Back then, John snuck into the nursery and switched Lisa and Chloe. Is it possible he didn't just swap two babies, but three?"
What do you think?
