Chapter 839
They'd never even entertained the idea before. It seemed so far-fetched. I mean, John had always been a bit of a schemer, right? His personal grudge with the families was well-known; he had this plan to let his daughter grow up in the well- to-do Riverbrook area. Then, once she was all grown up, he'd spring the whole "surprise, I'm your real dad" thing to cash in on some benefits. Swapping kids? That's just plain bonkers. Besides, they didn't have any beef with John-hardly knew the guy, to be honest. It hadn't crossed their minds at all.
"This is just nuts, absolutely nuts..." Ruby murmured, unable to wrap her head around it. She couldn't even begin to guess what John was thinking. Or was it just their wild imagination? Maybe they wanted Chloe to be their daughter so badly that they'd cooked up this whole crazy theory?
Neil chimed in, "There's a simple way to find out if Chloe is our daughter-a DNA test."
"But I've been putting it off because, well, what if the results aren't what we hope for? I don't want to ruin Chloe's mood before the wedding," Neil confessed.
Ruby nodded in agreement. "Let's wait until after the wedding. Then we can do the DNA test."
Her heart was racing. Looking at Chloe now, everything felt different.
"We shouldn't breathe a word of this to Chloe. We'll do the DNA test on the down- low. If she's not ours, we'll just carry on like none of this ever happened," Ruby decided.noveldrama
Neil felt the same way. Initially, he hadn't even planned to tell Ruby about the test. But seeing her flip from joy to sadness so quickly, he couldn't help but offer her a flicker of hope.
The next morning, the Shaw house was buzzing with excitement, lights, and festive decorations. The bridal procession rolled in just as daylight crept in. The snow had melted away overnight, leaving the yard clear, but the snowman they'd built was still standing tall.
As Connor stepped out of the car, his eyes landed on the snowman, sporting Chloe's scarf. He couldn't help but chuckle, picturing Chloe from the night before, happily building the snowman with everyone. She seemed so at home here, so happy.
Connor cut a striking figure today-his custom black suit hugged his tall frame perfectly, emphasizing his broad shoulders and slim waist The white shirt collar paired with a sleek blue silk tie, knotted just fight, lent him an air of sophistication. His initials were subtly stitched on the cuffs in silver, adding a touch of aristocratic flair. Chloe had designed this suit herself.
Back then, Chloe was burning the midnight oil at work, and it had caused a bit of tension between them. But later, Connor found out she was designing their wedding outfits.
Holding a bouquet of fresh flowers, he felt a flutter of nerves as he neared the entrance. Once inside, things went smoothly. Teddy, his best man, was right behind him, passing out red envelopes left and right.
Traditionally, there'd be a slew of hurdles to clear. The Shaw brothers had gone all out, rallying a small crowd to set up blockades at every turn-doorways, stairs, hallways, you name it. But somehow, Connor managed to breeze through in just five minutes, leaving the Shaw brothers at the bridal room door,
utterly gobsmacked by his quick arrival.
