Chapter 1819
Fiona's tone had already gotten under the counselor's skin. She wasn't a fan of Fiona to begin with, and Fiona's independent, aloof demeanor only made it seem like she was looking down on everyone around her.
Compared to Amy, the model student who also came from a well-off family, it was clear why the counselor preferred her. Both had similar backgrounds, but Amy was far more likable. Since the semester started, Amy had already given her two gifts: a fancy necklace she was currently wearing and a complete set of skincare products, easily worth a few thousand dollars—about two months of her salary at Hillside University.
Naturally, she favored Amy.
"Ms. Fiona, what's with the attitude? I'm your teacher. Is this how you treat your educators?" The counselor adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses.
Students at Hillside University were usually top performers-polite, respectful, and aware of the importance of honoring their teachers. But Fiona was like that one bad apple ruining the bunch.noveldrama
How she managed to ace the entrance exam was beyond her. Must have been sheer luck or maybe something not quite above board.
"And what kind of attitude are you expecting from us?"
Out of nowhere, Nash's voice cut through from behind Fiona. Everyone turned to look, and just as expected, the counselor's face darkened at the sight of him. She had never dealt with such disrespectful students in her life.
Decades in teaching, only to end up with this kind of treatment—absolutely maddening.
"I am your teacher!" she declared, standing up abruptly from the couch.
Her height was well above most girls and even some boys, and she often used this physical edge to intimidate teachers and students she didn't care for.
Students, aware of her role, held back their anger, and teachers who weren't as imposing often endured her jabs about lacking masculinity and courage, hearing those remarks almost daily.
Of course, Fiona had no clue about any of this.
She simply had a straightforward dislike for this counselor who seemed to judge people by the gifts they gave, nothing more.
"So what if you're a teacher? Just focus on teaching and leave everything else aside," Fiona shot back, her eyes briefly landing on the necklace.
Predictably, the counselor quickly tucked the necklace away, masking her brief moment of panic with swift movements, but Fiona had already caught it.
"Are you questioning me?" the counselor sneered coldly, as if Fiona wasn't even worth her time.
To her, Fiona was just a teenager, not even twenty, and not really capable of causing any real trouble.
At the start of the semester, she'd already gathered all the info she needed. Fiona and Nash were from New York City, part of the
well-known Stanton and Wool ne
families. While their families might have clout in the city, they had no influence here. She figured she was being generous by not making Fiona and Nash write a thousand-word essay as a favor to their families.
After all, her former students were now big names across the country. The Stanton and Wood families had produced notable individuals before, so why should a mere teenager be so bold as to challenge her_O authority? t
