Chapter 499
The private doctor Stephen kept on call had a guest room on the floor below. Samson had already phoned him a few minutes earlier.
The doctor arrived in a rush, medical kit in hand. When he saw Stephen's condition, his face turned pale.
With trembling hands, he administered an emergency injection.
Meanwhile, Samson dragged Hazel out of the suite and instructed the hotel's female staff to find her some clothes. Afterward, she was escorted straight to the police station.
Only after making sure she was dealt with did Samson hurry back upstairs to check on Stephen.
"Doctor, how is Mr. Jacobson doing?" Samson asked anxiously.
The doctor wiped the sweat from his brow and took a moment to steady his breathing before replying, "Since we don't know exactly what she gave him, I couldn't administer a targeted antidote. I only gave him something to temporarily ease the symptoms.
"He's stable for now, but he needs to get to the hospital immediately. There's no time to waste."
Samson nodded quickly. "Understood. I'll arrange for transport right away."
An hour later, Stephen finally regained full consciousness. He lay in the hospital bed, his face still a little pale.
Samson stood nearby with his head bowed low.
"Mr. Jacobson, this was my fault. I'll accept whatever punishment you decide. Please... just don't fire me. I can't afford to lose this job."
Stephen's gaze turned sharp as a blade. "How did she get into my room?"
Samson lowered his head even further, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Roughly 20 minutes before it happened, I ran into Hazel in the hotel lobby. She was in such a rush that she bumped right into me. Your keycard was in my jacket pocket... She must've taken it then."
As Stephen's personal assistant, Samson always carried a spare card for emergencies.
Stephen's tone turned icy. "And you didn't realize it had gone missing?"
Samson shuddered. "I apologize, Mr. Jacobson. It was my negligence." "Where is she now?"
"She's been taken to the police station."
Stephen's eyes darkened further. "Terminate all partnerships with Syntra Group.
Begin preparations to acquire the company."
Syntra Group belonged to Hazel's father.
Samson responded quickly, "Yes, Mr. Jacobson."
"And you..." Stephen looked at him coldly.
Samson didn't dare breathe too loudly. His nerves were taut, panic simmering beneath the surface.
"You're getting a pay cut and a demotion. You'll handle the Syntra Group termination on my behalf.
DonDlet me see you again until it's done," Stephen said.
Samson finally exhaled. He wasn't being fired. He was just being demoted and suffered a pay cut.
His tense posture eased slightly as he bowed. "Understood, Mr. Jacobson."
Stephen's expression remained frigid. "Cancel all of tomorrow's meetings. Take me to the airport immediately. I'm flying back to Rivertown."
Tessa had blocked his number and all contact channels. He had no way of reaching her.
He couldn't afford to wait until tomorrow. He had to return immediately to explain everything.
He wouldn't let her spend the night angry and misunderstood. If he delayed his return, by the time he got back, she might just break up with him.
This was no minor misunderstanding. He couldn't risk losing her again. Samson responded swiftly, "Right away, Mr. Jacobson. I'll make the arrangements."
Back in Rivertown, Tessa sat trembling after hanging up the video call.
She had blocked every possible means of contact with Stephen. Fury churned inside her, burning hotter with every passing second.
She tried to distract herself. She read a book, watched a show, played games,
and even buried herself in work. None of it helped.
The images wouldn't stop. In her mind, they played on a loop. The man's ragged breathing, and that woman's coy moans.
Tessa was on the verge of breaking
down. She tried everything she could
think of to shift her focus. But ofnoveldrama
course, nothing worked. The fire only grew stronger.
Finally, unable to take it any longer, she removed Stephen's number from her blocked list. She wasn't calling to reconcile. She was going to yell at him. She had already rehearsed exactly what she was going to say.
What do you think?
