Chapter 1966
Kemp had no idea how shameless Mabel could be. She dared to speak of marrying Manfred.noveldrama
With the way Manfred had been behaving lately, Kemp wondered if Mabel was truly blind to it.
"Mr. Atkinson probably doesn't even remember her name. I can vouch for it—Mr. Atkinson only has eyes for you, Ms. Martin," Kemp said quickly.
Vivian paused for a moment, then shook her head. "It's fine."
When she saw Mabel again, she was indeed surprised. But the surprise was quickly replaced by a sense of pity.
Mabel snapped, enraged by the woman's words, "What do you know? You'll never meet Mr. Atkinson in your life, but the bond I have with him is something you could never even imagine. I'll be back in Vlario soon, and once I marry Mr. Atkinson, all you'll have left to do is envy me!"
She spoke with such arrogance, as though it were a certainty. She acted as if she would really return to Vlario and marry Manfred.
Mabel still believed her stay here was just temporary. Cody doted on her so much, and soon Manfred would realize that Vivian was nothing but a seductress and then remember Mabel.
She was sure she held a special place in Manfred's heart.
After all, Manfred would never be tricked by that seductress for long.
Kemp couldn't hold it in any longer and scoffed. "Mabel, when will you wake up? Who gave you the right to slander Mr. Atkinson like this? When did Mr. Atkinson ever have feelings for you?"
If Mabel truly understood, she wouldn't be spreading such nonsense, trying to tarnish Manfred's reputation.
A few people washing clothes by the river heard a man's voice and quickly turned around.
They froze when they saw Kemp standing there. He was handsome and poised, his presence commanding, and his gaze as he looked at Mabel was chilling.
The woman beside him was even more striking, resembling a fairy being straight out of a painting. They had never seen anything so beautiful before.
The others were left in awe and curiosity, while Mabel was completely startled.
She stared in disbelief at Vivian and Kemp, never expecting to see them here. In this remote, far-flung village, so far from Vlario, of all places.
"You... You two... How could it be you two? How are you here?" Mabel stammered, panic evident in her voice.
Vivian noticed Mabel's flustered expression but felt little sympathy. It was a shame she wouldn't witness Mabel's embarrassment once her lies were exposed.
"Mabel, you have some nerve! Come with me now to meet Mr. Atkinson!" Kemp was truly enraged by Mabel's shamelessness.
He had initially thought that when Mabel was slapped by Cody back in Briarpatch, she would come to her senses, but now it was clear she
was still far from it.
Mabel's face paled as she stammered, "Mr. Atkinson... Mr. Atkinson is here too?"
"What? Mr. Atkinson?"
"Then who is this woman? Could she be Mr. Atkinson's fiancee?"
"Definitely! She looks like a fairy. I've never seen anyone so beautiful! And she's clearly from a prestigious background-nothing like Mabel. Look at Mabel now, completely humiliated. How could Mr. Atkinson ever like her?"
"Exactly! For the past few days, Mabel has been looking down on the girls in our village, saying that none of them can compare to her. She'd criticize everyone's marriage prospects, acting like her future husband was Mr. Atkinson, Well, look at this now. Mr. Atkinson's fiancée is here! Let's see how she tries to explain herself now."
Several women chattered among themselves.
If Mabel hadn't been so arrogant and dismissive of the villagers lately, they
wouldn't have turned on her like this.
What do you think?
