Chapter 694
That evening, Vicki asked her brother Baron Shaw about Eddie.
"Who?" Baron's handsome face took on a serious expression.
Vicki gripped her fork tightly and replied, "Eddie Saunders, the fourth master of
the Saunders family."
Baron frowned. "Vicki, Eddie is a jerk. You should stay away from him."
"What?" Vicki was shocked.
"A jerk? Eddie always seems so suave and charming. How could he be a jerk?' she thought to herself.
Baron continued speaking, "The Saunders family is fine, except for him. Eddie is a total playboy. Vicki, if you ever run into him again, just ignore him."
'Oh my god! I can't believe it!' Vicki thought, shocked all over again.
'A playboy?!
'Eddie is actually a playboy?
'He doesn't look like a playboy at all...'
Vicki finished her dinner without much appetite and headed back to her room.
Before she knew it, she had opened her laptop and typed Eddie's name into the search bar.
Information about Eddie popped up immediately.
Sure enough, that incident with Eddie had made headlines.
After that, Eddie fell into a deep depression.
The Saunders family had eventually paid a hefty sum to have all the news entries wiped from the Internet.
So all Vicki ever saw was the best side of Eddie.
Vicki leaned over her laptop.
She couldn't find anything.
But there was no reason for Baron to lie to her.
She knew Baron cared about her more than anyone.
She'd better keep her distance from Eddie from now on.
Eddie called Bradley back in high spirits.
But Bradley was watching a movie with Cameron and didn't answer him.
Later that night, while Eddie was at his grandfather's place bickering with Damian, Bradley's call came through.
Eddie looked at Damian, completely speechless. "Dame, I know you spent a fortune on the wedding and you're probably broke now, but seriously, how could you try to squeeze money out of me?"
Damian didn't bother with small talk. "So you're refusing to pay?"
Eddie blinked and said, "Yes."
Damian said with a smile, "If you won't give it to me, I'll just go ask your precious Vicki instead."
"Oh my god!' Eddie screamed inside his head.
Damian smiled, "I'll go ask her tomorrow."
Eddie immediately caved. "Alright, alright, you win. I'll give it to you."
Damian tapped his phone. "I'll be waiting."
Eddie immediately sent the money. "I've sent it."
Damian said happily, "Thanks, Eddie. If you ever have another sweet deal like this, remember to call me."
Eddie shouted, "Get lost!"
Damian smiled slightly. Why? Because Eddie had spoken more today than he had in the entire past year. Ever since that incident, Eddie had changed completely - withdrawn, quiet, and cold toward everything.
But today, for the first time in a long while, he seemed to come alive again. If nothing went wrong, Vicki would become his
salvation.
Eddie was still a bit sore about the 6,000 dollars he just lost when Bradley's call came through.
"Eddie, I want to get my memories back," Bradley said straight to the point. Eddie said speechlessly, "Brad, didn't I already tell you that's not happening?" Bradley asked, "Eddie, is it that you just can't pull it off, or what?”
Eddie let out a helpless sigh and replied, "Brad, it's not about whether I can or can't. The risk is just too high. It's only half a year's worth of memories that got wiped it's really not that big of a deal."
Bradley disagreed, saying, "No, Eddie, it means a lot to me."
Yeah, it was just six months.
Six months- it's not that long, but it's not exactly short, either.
But those six months were when Cameron fell for him.
That's why he wanted to remember every little detail from those days they spent together.
It mattered to Bradley. A lot.
Eddie sighed, "Brad, I know you want to remember everything about Cameron, but if the hypnosis goes wrong, you will lose your mind. You might end up in a psych ward. Do you really think you and Cameron would still have a future then?"
Bradley insisted asking, "But what if it works?"
Eddie was speechless.
After a long silence, Eddie finally said, "Brad, is it really worth risking everything for this? Aren't you and Cameron happy together right now? Why get so caught
up in the past when you two still have such a bright future ahead?"
Bradley said, "Alright, Eddie. I get it."
He hung up and immediately dialed Camilla.
Camilla answered almost right away.
"Hey, Brad," she greeted him.
"Camilla," Bradley got straight to the point, "I know you've studied psychology. Do
you know how to hypnotize someone? I mean, deep hypnosis."
Camilla was a little surprised. "Brad, I do know a little about hypnosis, but why do you ask?"
1
Bradley said, "Camilla, I want to recover the memories that were erased from my mind back then. Can you help me with that?"
Camilla replied, "There are risks, Brad."
Camilla had only learned about all this from Eric Saunders after Bradley came home and announced he was going to marry into the Yates family.
Bradley asked, "Even you can't guarantee it?"
Camilla replied, "Brad, everything comes with risks. You should go with the flow." Bradley sighed slightly, "Alright."
1
If even Camilla couldn't pull it off, then he really had no business dreaming about
it anymore.
Bradley hung up the phone.
He stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, one hand in his pocket, his tall figure reflected in the glass.
'What a pity,' he thought.
Although Eddie had told him the general story of his time with Cameron, there were still details - the little moments shared only between them that he would never know. Those memories now belonged to Cameron alone. Fortunately, they still had a beautiful future ahead.
*****
A month later, during his lunch break, Bradley took Cameron to see the new home
he'd spent an entire month carefully choosing for them.
It was a cozy, private villa.
It wasn't huge-just over a thousand square meters.
Three stories above ground, with two more underground.
It was right near Aurevia Biotech, where Cameron worked.
She could walk there in ten minutes.
Bradley held Cameron's hand as they stood at the villa's entrance.
Flowers were blooming everywhere this time of year, and the moment they
reached the door, the rich fragrance hit them.
Bradley reached out and pushed open the wrought-iron gate. "Cam, this house is
fully furnished. If you don't like the style, we can tear it all down and redo everything."
They walked inside together.
The villa had a modern minimalist style- no complicated designs, just clean lines
and a graceful, simple look.
Cameron said, "Looks great."
Bradley smiled, "Glad you like it."
Cameron sank into the couch.
The living room couch was soft and inviting, making the whole place feel warm
and homey.
Bradley said softly, "Cam, the house isn't very big, so we just need several people
to help out with the cleaning and our day-to-day stuff."
Bradley didn't like having too many people at home.
Honestly, he really just wanted this house to belong only to him and Cameron.
But they were both so busy, and someone had to handle all the little things that came with running a home.
A smile played on Cameron's lips as she met his gentle gaze behind his glasses. "Brad, you're thinking way too far ahead."
Bradley squeezed her hand. "It's not far at all. Trust me."
Cameron just smiled without replying.
Bradley helped her up. "Let me show you around, Cam."
"Mm."
Meanwhile...
A stretcher covered with a white sheet was set right outside the main entrance of
Aurevia Biotech's building.
A middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties threw herself down beside the
stretcher, wailing uncontrollably.
The woman cried, "Oh, my boy, wake up! Please!"
19
The woman sobbed, "Oh, my boy, what will I do if you're gone?"
The woman sobbed and wailed, "Boohoo... I don't want to live anymore! Just let
me die!"
It was lunchtime.
People were coming and going at the entrance, and a crowd quickly gathered.
Once she saw she had an audience and had just about cried herself out, the woman amped up the drama and started her main act. "Cameron Yates! It's your fault my son is dead! Cameron, show yourself!" The woman got up from the ground, stomping and wailing as she made a scene.
"Cameron! You murderer! That damn leukemia drug you made my son could've lived one more year, but after taking your drug, he died in just three days!"
Her words rang out, every accusation sharp and clear.
Everyone around could hear her loud and clear.
"Boohoo... Cameron... you executioner! Give me back my son! Give him back!"
"Cameron! Show yourself! Get out here right now!"
"Boohoo..."
Her wailing got more dramatic as she went on.
By now, everyone around pretty much got the gist of what was going on.
"No way, did someone actually die because of the drug? All the news I've seen
lately says people are recovering after taking Cameron's medicine."
"Maybe it's just bad luck or something."
"Is she just here to scam them for money?"
"Oh man, Aurevia Biotech is screwed..."
The crowd buzzed with speculation.
Hearing all the gossip, the woman started wailing even louder, putting on an evennoveldrama
bigger show.
Just a few meters away from the lobby, in a sleek black car parked on the street, a
woman watched the scene unfold. A satisfied smile crept across her face. She slowly took off her sunglasses.
"Cameron Wallace, or should I say, Cameron Yates, you hurt me so much. I'll pay
you back double!"
Her face twisted with malice.
It was Milena Wallace, who had vanished from everyone's sight for years.
Back then, no sooner had Cameron sent Milena's biological parents to jail than
Milena herself got expelled from school for stealing Cameron's design in a fashion competition.
Utterly disgraced, Milena took the last of her money and left the country. Life had been nothing but hardship for her these past few years.
But even though life was tough, she still managed to make some money.
Lately, things had been getting better and better for her.
And then, she saw Cameron's name all over the news.
'The girl I used to trample underfoot is now the savior of leukemia patients?'
Milena thought, her heart burning with disbelief.
'Why her, not me? Why does Cameron get to be in the spotlight?' Milena fumed, jealousy burning in her head.
So Milena stormed back, ready to settle the score.
She was going to ruin Cameron for good.
Cameron must under her heel for good forever and ever!
Milena sat in her car, keeping a close eye on how things were developing at the
entrance.
'Cameron, it's your turn to take the stage, Milena thought, a sinister smile curling
on her lips.
Bradley had just finished giving Cameron a full tour of the villa when her phone suddenly started ringing.
"Brad, let me grab this call," Cameron said.
Bradley nodded.
"Hey, David,” Cameron answered as she answered.
"Ms. Yates, where are you right now?" David's voice was laced with urgency and
tension.
David was fairly calm by nature, so hearing him like this, Cameron immediately knew something was wrong.
Cameron asked, "David, I'm just around the corner from the office. What's going
on?"
David said quickly, "There's a woman at the building entrance right now, crying over her dead son. She's claiming her son had leukemia and was supposed to live another year, but after taking our drug, he died in just three days. She's making a huge scene, demanding answers.
"Ms. Yates, whatever you do, don't come out right now! The entrance is swarming
with reporters. If you show up, they'll tear you apart," David said worriedly.
This wasn't running away.
This was just playing it smart.
They still had no idea what was really going on.
If Cameron showed up now, she'd just be a punching bag for everyone's anger.
David knew Cameron was talented, but she was still in her twenties, and spent all
her time buried in research, hardly ever dealing with people. There was no way she could handle this situation.
After hearing David out, Cameron pretty much figured out what was going on.
Cameron said calmly, "David, don't panic. Send all the security guards over to keep things under control. I'll be there in a few minutes."
As she spoke, Cameron grabbed Bradley by the hand and hurried out the door.
Even though Cameron didn't have her phone on speaker, Bradley could tell from
the look on her face that something serious was going down.
He immediately followed right after her.
David shouted, "No! Ms. Yates, you can't go over there right now!"
Cameron said firmly, "David, I know you're worried about me, but this is about a
life – I can't just sit back and do nothing."
She continued, "I'm not only the one who developed the leukemia drug, I'm also
the boss of Aurevia Biotech. I have to step up and face this!"
As she said this, Cameron was already getting into the car.
Bradley jumped into the driver's seat.
David hesitated and said, "But..."
"David," David was still trying to dissuade her, but Cameron cut him off firmly.
"Please, just follow my instructions."
David sighed, "Fine."
Since they had to face this, they'd face it together.
The car pulled up to the building entrance in no time.
Cameron unbuckled her seatbelt and was about to get out.
Bradley grabbed her arm.
Cameron turned to look at him.
Bradley said, "Cam, don't be scared. I've got your back."
Cameron shook her head. "Brad, please, don't get mixed up in this. Just stay in
the car, okay? Promise me you won't get out."
Bradley shook his head. "Cam, that's not possible. Look, as Aurevia Biotech's
legal advisor, there's no way I can just sit back when something this big is happening.
"And on a personal note, you're my girlfriend. I'd never let you face those people
alone."
"Brad..." Cameron shook her head.
"Cam, I'm not letting you go in there alone," Bradley insisted.
Cameron stared at him for a few seconds, then finally gave in.
Now, she couldn't afford to worry about anything else.
Cameron pushed open the car door and got out. "Look, it's Cameron!"
"Cameron!"
Reporters armed with cameras and mics swarmed toward her at lightning speed.
The reporters instantly swarmed around Cameron, boxing her in from all sides.
Bradley shouldered his way through the crowd, pushing people back and keeping Cameron safely behind him.
"Ms. Yates, how do you respond to claims that your leukemia drug killed
someone?"
"Ms. Yates, that child was only six years old - so full of life. Don't you think this
makes you basically a murderer?" "Ms. Yates-" The reporters fired off questions one after another, each sharper and more
aggressive than the last, leaving Cameron speechless.
What do you think?
