Chapter 1278
Chapter 1278:
He covered his bruised face with a mask, leaving only his cold eyes exposed.
Aaron?
Aaron had to be the one who had chased him that night, demanding he put Adalina down.
Milford believed he and Aaron were roughly the same age, but Aaron was decked out in expensive designer clothes. He thought that just Aaron’s shoes probably cost more than everything he was wearing combined.
With a guy like Aaron around Adalina, it was no surprise Denzel avoided him, thinking he was some kind of shady character.
Adalina probably felt the same way. To them, someone like him was beneath them, someone who didn’t deserve justice. Maybe they even thought he didn’t deserve to live.
An hour later, Milford finally made it home by bus. Lisa rushed to open the door when she heard him knock. She gasped when she saw his battered face.
“Milford!” she cried. “What happened?”
“It’s nothing, just some minor injuries,” Milford mumbled, taking off his mask and hat as he headed for his room.
Lisa stepped in front of him, blocking his path. “Minor injuries? Your injuries look severe. Did you get hurt collecting debts for my brother? I’m telling him about this! How dare they beat you up and not pay their debts? It’s just not right!”noveldrama
Milford replied, “No, it’s not about the debts. It’s just a misunderstanding. You wouldn’t get it. Just go back to studying.”
Lisa hesitated, and Milford frowned. “Go,” he said firmly.

“Okay…” Lisa reluctantly went back to her room to study. However, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, so she called Barry and told him everything.
Barry immediately called the club owner, who denied having anything to do with the matter. “If your guy came here, I wouldn’t touch him even if I didn’t want to give the money back. Don’t you dare accuse me of something I didn’t do! If I beat him up, I would own up to it. Now, go bother someone else!”
“Could you at least help me figure out what happened? He was beaten badly,” Barry said.
The club owner, having a bit of a conscience, checked the security cameras and found something. He called Barry back. “Your guy got into a fight trying to be a hero. It’s not our fault!”
Learning about what had actually happened, Barry was furious. Milford had asked for trouble. Milford had been brave to save Lisa on the street, but going to the club to play the hero was just plain stupid.
At night, when Barry got home, Lisa said to him, “You can’t keep sending Milford on these dangerous tasks!”
“It’s not my fault! I’d never put him in harm’s way on purpose. He got himself into this mess trying to save a girl and got his ass kicked for it. That idiot! I need to talk to him,” Barry replied.
He then headed to Milford’s room.
When he saw Milford’s battered face, he couldn’t help but shake his head. “You’re not the type to go around rescuing damsels in distress…”
After Barry gave him a good talking-to, Milford promised to stay out of trouble.
